Don't know if people lucky enough to have a Publix know about this site, but I happened upon it on FB and thought I would pass it along. It's a site all about saving money at Publix. Her tag line is "Saving you money is my pleasure."

I just got back from Publix!!!! Thanks for the link. It confirmed something for me. When they have a buy one get one free, you have to buy two to get the deal in Florida. other states will let you just get one item for 1/2 off... bummer for me.

I'm always interested in saving money! We don't have Publix in our area, but I always shop at Publix when we're in WDW, so I appreciate the linkl. I don't see a way to sign up at the site, do we just follow her to see the specials?

It's a Florida thing? I kinda thought it just depended on the store. I would hate that. Here if it's Buy 1 Get 1 Free, you can just get one for 1/2 the price. Most of the time at most grocery stores.

I don't know if we have rules or laws here, but I've always at least understood that if it was advertised "Buy One, Get One", you paid full price for the first, and if you had a second, it was free. If it is advertised "X for $Y", then you get each for $Y/X, unless there was something that specifically said there was a minimum purchase requirement.

The two grocery stores I go to most here, when something is Buy 1 Get 1 Free each of the two items ring up at 1/2 price. One is not full price and the other nothing. If a $3.00 loaf of bread is B1G1 free, the loaves ring up $1.50 each. Sometimes on some things it will say in the ad "Must Buy 2" but most of the time you can get just one for 1/2 the price. I've wondered about it, thinking why don't they just say "$3 loaf of bread half off" but I think people just like the word free.

When we lived in Georgia and shopped at Publix I would always get the Buy one free and just get one at 1/2 price. the first time I went to Publix in Florida I remember M&M's were buy one and get one free. I bought one bag thinking it would be 1/2 price.... nope!! it was full price...

I have noticed on some of the newer computerized systems that when there are certain restriction on purchasing, they will ring up at the regular price until the condition is met - then it retroactively changes the price of the others. They may have to (for refund or accounting purposes) assign some value to the item when purchased as part of a set - so in a "buy one get one" situation it is possible that the first one rings up full price, but when the second one gets rung it they both change to half price.

Again, that is here, and it may depend on the store/register system...

Around here, if they have a Buy 1 Get 1 free, you can just buy 1 and 1/2 price.

I'm curious if it is some kind of law in some states, that if you have a buy one get one free deal that you have to sell just one for half the price? Strange that Publix in Georgia would let you do this, but not Publix in Florida. Where is Jack when you need him?

I think the state laws do vary. Here if it's buy one get one free, then that's what it is. However, when an ad says 5 for $10, each one rings up at $2.
Not sure why the difference, but it is that way. One way some stores have gotten around the second scenerio is by advertising buy 5 (or whatever) and get a $ amount off the entire purchase.
