Do you travel alone on a regular basis, like once a year or have you been traveling alone for a long time now?

Do you travel alone on a regular basis, like once a year or have you been traveling alone for a long time now?

Lets see, in December I will make my 4th solo trip to the "world". Of course they are never really solo trips as I always meet other DISers there. But I have been traveling solo for a number of years. I prefer to travel solo unless I know the person that I am traveling with is similar in travel style to me. I do have a couple of friends that fit that bill.

I usually travel solo. I have done group holidays but prefer solo trips. When you are with strangers on a group trip you feel more obliged to stay with the group and that is a bit claustraphobic for me.

I don't like vacationing alone. If I an going from where I live to see friends or family I am fine, but I just feel out of place going on a vacation alone.

My situation is similar to nurse.darcy. Sometimes I'll stay at the resort solo, but have a bunch of DIS friends and CMs I usually hang out with while there. :cool1:

When I became single in my late 30’s I spend nearly a decade not
traveling because I thought I didn’t like traveling alone.

Then I was suddenly left alone in a Vegas trip. My friend got a
job offer two days into our five day trip and left.

Those last three days were terrific!

I have never been to WDW because I thought going there alone would
be kind of depressing. But I figured I had only three choices:
wait until I met someone and go, stay at home, or go alone.

I spent 11 days on my first solo trip and had so much fun I’m
going again in December.

And I’ve traveled alone often in the past few years. For me
traveling solo is better than staying at home...waiting.

Amen to that! I am similar in that I was married for 7+ years and my now ex-husband never wanted to go anywhere ... except to visit his parents in AZ. He wouldn't even go to Aruba during one of our married years when we were offered a free place to stay in my parents' timeshare! So when we separated/divorced, the first thing I did was plan a trip to Aruba to stay with my family. I flew alone and did many things along there since my family just didn't want to (scuba dive, etc.). Once that trip was over, I decided that there was no reason to NOT travel even if I have no one to go with. That is when I planned my first solo trip to WDW. 3 years later I have traveled with friends to various places and am taking another WDW solo trip in a month. Yes, I like traveling with friends, but if my friends don't want to or aren't able to go, I'm not going to sit home wishing I was traveling.

Just do it! :yay:

I have to agree with others. I'm single and I'm not going to stay home waiting for someone who wants to travel with me. I get up and go. I've been to Disney more times solo than EVER with family or friends. I love it. I get to make all the choices and such. Sometimes it would be fun to share a laugh with a friend, but I've ended up talking to lots of strangers - which is something I can't do normally as I'm too shy, but I can at Disney.
I'm going solo on the EB repo cruise in 2010 because I want to cruise and have no one to go with - so I'm going anyway. It's a bit more expensive but I know I'll still have fun.

It really depends on your comfort level. I am not an outgoing person, but traveling and dining is one thing I won't let being solo take from me. Try it once. I enjoy the experience differently solo than with friends and I fun either way. I just like being able to go with the flow and make decisions which doesn't happen if I am with others.

do it.

traveling solo to WDW is fun. You don't have to worry about someone else schedule.

you can sleep it or go to the parks as soon as they open - it is up to you.

enjoy being with family and friends - but definitely LOVE my solo trips.

Thats exactly how I felt until a year ago when my Mom and I went on a cruise together. She does not get around like she used to so, and my hubby refuses to cruise, so I actually thought about doing it alone.

I thought what a great way to travel alone, but really not be alone. You are surrounded by hundreds of people, but you can also escape that by finding a quiet corner on the deck to read, nap etc. You really don't have to dine alone, because the ship will probably seat you with other solo-travelers. However, the only downside is the enormous cost for traveling solo on a cruise.

I think the only way to get a good deal would be to travel last-minute, when the ships are trying to sell their open cabins.

I still may do it, but have not decided yet.

I am the opposite I do better on holiday solo than with others.

How about a silly question from someone who hasn't ever been to Disney solo? I'm planning a trip in late 2009 or mid 2010 depending on finances and such. I'm dying to go alone so I can do and see the new things and things I didn't get to before etc. Plus I'm self employed so I can go when it's quietest. I have a weird question though.

I'm not big on the rollercoasters and such and at this moment, the biggest ride I'll go on is possibly Splash Mountain. If I were to buy one of the refillable cups, is it possible to take it (empty of course) on the rides with me? I'm worried if I leave anything anywhere it won't come back. This is totally early I know, but I figured this was a good way to begin here. I've really been enjoying the TRs and I'll have to comment on some soon.

There's no such thing as a silly question around here - and in answer to yours, sure you can bring an empty cup on a ride. I usually have a bag or backpack with me, but on the times I don't, I just go into the nearest store and ask for a plastic bag. It'll be easier to carry the cup and keep track of that way.

Have fun planning your solo trip and feel free to ask any other questions you might have!! :goodvibes

Hi,

I enjoy traveling alone; basically because if I waited for someone to go with me, I'd never leave home. I never feel alone, though, on a solo Disney trip, because I usually find friends from online with whom to hang out until my arms get sore.

I'm single (divorced no kids) and wasnt introduced to disney till 2004, when i went with my sister, nieces and mom.... k, i was hooked on the first trip!! Hi, my name is Christine and i'm a disneyholic!! hehe Anyway, we went again in 2005... well i wanted to go again in 2006, and they couldnt go, by this time i already had 2 trips under my belt and i knew that i could do ok by going solo. So in Oct 2006, i made the plunge and went solo, it was so great! So now, i'm about to take my 3rd trip solo, and will be buying an annual pass, so that i can have more opportunities to go next year!

My deal is that i'm not going to stay at home just because nobody can go with me, and as other posters have said, you never alone at Disney and i also alway talk to strangers!! Something that i would NEVER do in my hometown. I always talk to the cm's, help families, friends take pictures, etc. Its just so nice at Disney, everybody is so just so friendly. Plus to with all the cell phones now-a-days, you are truly never alone because you can always call/text friends while your there. Anyway, bottom line, if you want to go somewhere just pack your bags and go! Just my 2 cents! :)

My 1st solo vacation was a cruise. My then husband decided at the last minute he was not going on the cruise. I went anyway and sad to say we are now divorce.

I take short mini vacations all the time because I'm a woman's college basketball junkie. I take two major vacations every year usually w/ a sisterfriend but in this case for Thanksgiving no one wants to go so I'm going anyway.
