Hoping someone can help out.

What UY is currently available when purchasing SSR? Do you have to take what is offered or can you make a request?

Thanks
kristy

We purchased bacck in Jan/Feb and they were offering August UY and I also think December. We thought June would work better for us. Our guide was able to get us June but we would only have been able to bank 50% of the points (or some type of limitaation like that). We opted to stay with August as we could make it work. So in answer to your question, ask and I think your guide will do whatever he/she can to get you what you want. Good Luck!

You do get your choice of use year. Our guide asked us when we typically go to WDW and he helped us to pick a use year based on that. We picked February because we usually go in August. That way if we need to cancel at 30 days we can still bank all of our points. You want to pick a month that if you need to cancel your ressie, you will still be in your 6 month banking period.

They always have a month they are pushing at that time-- when I bought in January they were selling August UY which worked great for us-- but usually if you are adamant about wanting a different month you can get it. I'm not aware any UY are sold out.

Thanks everyone for your help.

Is anyone aware of what the current incentive is for first time purchasers?

Hi Kristy - we just "pulled the trigger" on our SSR purchase yesterday and we bought December UY. Because we were speaking to our guide prior to 3/31, we were able to buy at $90/point. She did offer us another deal - if we bought at the new price ($101), DVC would buy back our 05 UY points if we didn't plan to use them. Hope that helps!

Thanks!! It helps for sure. I don't know if this is a stupid question but I'll take my chances.
How do they buy back the points? For how much?
thanks

I think you got a great deal MikeDeeNY. We just purchased last week (same thing, we had made the initial call prior to 3/31). We bought at the going rate $98. per point (before it went up to $101. on 4/1). They gave us $1400. cash back that was credited towards the deposit (in addition to our what we put down). They also gave us the 2005 UY points. Our UY is October and they didn't give us an option on this (but we didn't think to ask). They said our use year is October because this is when the next phase of building is expected to be done.

Kristy - Since we went with the lower pricing, we didn't investigate the buy back option. I would mention it to your guide and see what they say. Sorry I don't have more details for you.

Thanks emma'smom! Sounds like we got the same deal - they applied the $8/point discount to our down payment. Congratulations to you on your purchase!

I was just looking through my scribble from the conversation with my guide - here's how I believe the new deal works (please verify this for yourself):

SSR points now cost $101 each. If you give back your 2005 UY points to Disney, they will give you a $13 discount per point off your down payment - essentially making the cost $88/point but you can't use any until 2006 UY.

Hope that helps!

We just added on a 150 point contract at SSR. It was $98 - $8 discount plus the free AP's! Another good thing came out of this as well, I just found the Dis. We have been members since 1992 (OKW) and it took our guide, Doug Rapp, to tell us about this forum. Thanks, Doug! Our use year is August. I didn't sweat that aspect because over the last 14 years our vacationing habits have changed and we now go at different times than we did 14 years ago. I'll have to dig up some paper work but I believe back in 19992 we paid something like $62? or so a point. Man, how times have changed.

Mike,
thanks for checking into that for me. I'm itching to dial that number!!

Johnny,
welcome to the DIS!! and congrats on your add-on. Hope you'll share all your years of experience with all of us!!

Kristy - go for it - make the call - it won't hurt just to talk to them, and you don't have to commit. My guide Susan Schell is fantastic and I would definitely recommend talking to her.

It would seem that Disney views points as having a 13 dollar value? Interesting info IMO when one looks at what the price should be, to rent points.
