What can I get instead of a dessert?

A drink, a snack, a side. Look for the DDP symbol on the menu as a guide.
Keep in mind, some QS locations have limited offerings so dessert or an extra drink may be the only option.

On the last trip we had I subbed French Onion soup at BOG for dessert, I subbed green beans for dessert at Cosmic Ray's, and I subbed carrots/celery snack at the Meadow's Snack Bar. It varies depending where you are but anything with a snack credit logo worked for us. (As a side note all the veggies were for my 2 year old who wasn't old enough for the dining plan so I shared my food and wanted to make sure she got some healthy stuff too. I'm not really that healthy of an eater myself.)

Your mileage may vary. This past weekend I was told I could only get soup instead of dessert at Be Our Guest (we wanted bottles of water). I was told I could absolutely not substitute anything at the Cantina de San Angel. At Cosmic Rays we had no issues substituting. We got bottles of water instead of desserts there.

You can swap a dessert for a "snack" item. Sometimes sides are also "snacks," but not always.
