Thinking of picking one of these up as an early birthday pressie and for DD to take on the plane. We have a stopover in Atlanta so anything to keep her occupied would be great!!

She's 4, almost 5. Loves computer games but is more adept at using a mouse for navigation than using buttons. She also loves to color, which is why I was looking at the Pixter.

Anyone have experience with either (or something better?) and have any thoughts?

Thanks!!! :sunny:

I bought Leapster for my kids after recommendations on here. :thumbsup2

I also have the Leapster. I got it for our trip to Florida in February. DS, 4, struggled with the buttons at first, but now he's used to it. It's great on trips!!

my nephew has pixter and there really aren't that many good learning games for it. My sis ended up buying Leapster after she saw how much my dd liked it. She will be 5 in Sept and has had it for 1.5yrs and still uses it all the time and has learned a lot from it. I definately recommend it. Look at amazon.com reviews too!!

My vote is for Leapster. It is educational and my 3 & 6 year olds both love it. It keeps them entertained for quite a while. :thumbsup2

My DS loves his Leapster!!! I got it for him for Christmas when he had just turned 3.5 and he was able to manipulate the buttons very quickly. It was a godsend to have on our Disney flights. The new Leapster L-Max also hooks up to the TV and you can play the games that way too.

My kids (4) also got Leapsters for their birthday, they really love it. Initially only my sond received it because my dd doesn't usually like video games, but she really wanted one so we bought it. A ? for those who have taken them on a plane, did you use headphones or was the volume Ok? thanks

My 6 year loves his leapster. I am just waiting to purchase a new game for him to take on the plane. He has both a leapster and a gameboy sp and he will use the leapster before the gameboy everytime. Lucky for me it is educational. :rotfl2:

Leapster is my vote hands down, my dd is are older now but still uses it occasionally instead of the GBA.

Headphones, please.... for the childs sake as well as the other passengers. This way the kids can hear even in a noisy area and it filters out some of the jet noise as well as not bothering the other passengers.

DD has Pixter, DS had Leapster. I agree that the Leapster seems to have more games or activity options, but DS went through three of them before we gave up - all three were defective in some way, and I just got tired of shipping them back to the company for replacement. The original Pixter is still going strong.

We love both!! My 4 year old took over his older brothers leapster and has the best time with it. Now for pure entertainment, he loves the Pixter for the art side of himself. The Pixter multimedia is incredible. The videos he's able to play are amazing.

My ds4 (will be 5 in 3 weeks) has both systems. Since he got the Leapster for Christmas, I don't think he has even picked up the Color Pixter - actually he handed it down to his 2 y/o sister. There are a lot of games to choose from (several Disney games). Each time he seems to be slacking off on interest, I pick up a new game.

Another vote for the Leapster. My DS(4) loves it. He uses it whenever he needs to poop (just like his daddy, bringing something to do in the bathroom :rolleyes2 ). We also use it on long car trips. He had a little trouble with the buttons at first but he picked it up pretty easily and now he can do the games by himself. We will be bringing it (and headphones) on the plane.

Leapster was great for the plane ride for my then 5 year old. His sister who is 3 loves to play it also with a little help from her brother. The headphones worked well (had some really nice ones) in blocking the engine noise. Have fun!

LEAPSTER all the way!!! My 4 1/2 year old LOVES it!!!!! Not only is it a fun game, ALL of the games are educational!!!!!! The best of both worlds! And, it grows with your child. She will use it for YEARS to come! I am going to the Bahamas in 2 weeks (YAY!) and I am stocking up on TONS of batteries so we don't have to worry about it the whole week.

Go for the Leapster...you can't go wrong! :thumbsup2

LOL, my DS does this too!!!!!!

Leapster is great! My DS7 was just playing his and loves it. It's also pretty sturdy and is fairly easy on batteries. I'd recommend it to anyone.
