We are going to WDW in 12 days from SC, and I am excited except for one thing - I-95. (Well, and I-4, too, but that's another topic. ) I guess what freaks me out is that we once got stuck in some horrendous traffic jam on a Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville, when we were headed for St. Augustine. It took about 4 hours to get from the south side of J'ville to St. Augustine. We never did figure out what happened, but they finally shunted all 3 lanes of traffic off onto US 1. What a nightmare! On the way home, we saw places on the southbound side of the highway in GA where traffic would be at a standstill for no apparent reason.

Does this happen a lot? Are we doomed to sit in traffic for hours? Do y'all run into stuff like this a lot?

My experiences are that Jax is usually bad during the week at normal rush hour times. I have not had any bad experiences on the weekends.

Be advised, though, that there is construction north of the city proper that will cause some issues. It's a little longer, but I295 is not a bad route around Jax. That road is almost always less conjested. The construction at the I95 - I295 interchange is just about complete and only has minor delays if any.
