How come? Just curious. I don't agree with everything he says, but I think he's dead on with most of his parenting advice.

Sometimes I get uncomfortable and think he's exploiting people; but hey - he doesn't have a gun to anybody's head who is crazy enough to go on the show.

I won't debate you - honest. I'm really just curious.

I like him just fine, but want to bump to see if anyone does dislike him. The funny thing I have noticed is that he is Dr. Laura with a good ole boy drawl and he goes over so much better. Why is that?

Do you really think he's as conservative as her? That's interesting.

I"ve only seen his show a couple of times (when having my nails done), but I didn't disgree with his advice.

My problem with him is that I've heard from multiple people in Texas that he is just AWFUL to his employees - yells, screams, is rude, etc. I just think that is inexcusable in the work place even if you are a star.

No kidding! You know, I wouldn't find that absolutely unbelievable.

I am not debating or flaming here - this is just my opinion.

I despise Dr. Laura and personally I don't see any relation to Dr. Phill at all. She is very judgemental and closed minded IMO. I don't see any of those traits in Dr. Phill.

::yes:: ::yes::

I always liked to listen to Dr. Laura on the radio, but that was more than 3 years ago. I don't care for Dr. Phil at all. I didn't respond to this earlier because I'm not sure why I don't like him, I just don't. Even when he was on Oprah, I would turn it off if he was on. I don't find him to be a likable person.

Just my opinion...to each their own.

She is at her core very much the same. She is more willing to chastize and is far more serious in that Dr. Phil lightens the mood with his "ism's". He says the same thing she does, but seems more friendly maybe? I did not take offense, it is not yet hot in here! I hope it dosen't.

I used to really hate her, when I listened more because I am a shock junkie on the way to taking DD to daycare, which I hated, then there is this woman saying no kid under four should be away from their parents. I felt like she was attacking me personally.

One day I heard her saying that things can be done to get around daycare, you just have to make sacrifices. She said things like, cut out the cable and sell one of the two cars, which sounded drastic to me then she said something that was very true in my situation- some people work to pay daycare, and if they cut out a couple of bills and the Daycare they could be in the same position financially anyway! That was after a teacher at DD's daycare told me there are some kids who are just not cut out for it and mine looked like one of them, as she sat in the corner all day, tears running down her face at one year old. I took her out and sacrificed and am so happy with my decision and grateful to Dr. Laura that I agree with her alot now!

Huh! I do think you are in the minority! I really like Dr. Laura and Dr. Phil, but feel like he has taken up her cause and gets all the credit!

I find watching his show often makes me uncomfortable. Like I am witnessing a private therapy session. I do feel his advice is mostly common sense, and I wonder why people can't figure it out themselves or within their families.
Sometimes he does come across as rather "full of himself". And I think he gets frustrated with the people that come on the show, even though I am sure he has final approval.

I honestly haven't listened to Dr. Laura much - I just hear what people say about her which might not be fair.

I'd like Dr. Phil loads better if I thought his #1 goal was to
help people. I see him as a "me first" kinda guy and good for
him but exploiting people to make money is despicable.
I've watched a few times and usually turn him off because I'm
afraid the buttons will pop off his shirt as his chest swells.LOL!

I do think he has good advice sometimes but he has said a few things that are just wrong in my opinion.

On one show a women had chronic back pain and her husband was fed up because when he married her she was perfectly healthy. Instead of telling him that he needs to take his wedding vows to heart---in sickness and health--, he told her that she needs to just suck it up and get over her pain and start being a good wife!
Unless you experience it you don't know what it is like to be in pain 24/7 and telling someone to suck it up is not very compassionate. Since then I don't have a high opinion of him.

I also think he is self serving and self promoting and egotistic. He acts like he is the only one with all the answers.

I've never watched his show, but I used to see him on Oprah. I dislike him a great deal as he seems to provide what I call "sound bite psychology." He'll say something that is rather harsh just to make it be a good clip for advertising.

I also agree with much of what the previous poster said about him being essentially exploitive.

I really enjoy him. He doesn't pull any punches. He's not like Dr. Laura, with anti-woman anti-gay vitrolic.

I really like Dr. Phil too. I love his straightforward approach! ::yes::

After the special he did exploiting the little boy (Does your child have what it takes to be a serial killer, or some crap like that), I can't stand him. Don't get me wrong; the parents were morons for even putting their child on TV, but the least Dr. Phil could have done was to black out the kid's face and change his name. After telling the parents the kid exhibited 7 out of 10 characteristics of kids who grow up to be serial killers, he has virtually guaranteed that's what the kid will be. Can you imagine that child having to go back to school now and face his classmates? What about his classmates parents? Do you think they will let their kids play with him? The kid will have no semblance of normal life.

He may have decent advice, but he's a self serving moron.

I agree with Randi - Most of the time it's common sense stuff which makes for a very boring show.

It just seems like he never says anything that is very profound. It is all common sense that just about anyone could come up with. I just find it surprising that his show is able to last and it seems like it is even popular.
I don't really "dislike" him though.
