For those of you who have visited Paris - would it make sense to stay at DisneyParis hotel if you were not going to the park - just doing Paris sightseeing ? Thanks for any insights!

Although the Disneyland Paris Hotel is very beautiful, I can't see how it would make sense to stay there if you don't plan on going to the parks. It's rather expensive and your room rate includes admission so you'd be paying for something you're not using. It's about a 30-40 minute train ride to Paris city center and the fare is approx $6 one-way. If you want to concentrate on seeing Paris, you should stay within the city where you'll be able to walk to many popular sites and take the Metro to those that are further away (about 70 cents per ticket when you buy a "carnet" or book of ten )
We were there this past summer and spent most our time in Paris, then added 2 nights at DP for the grand finale. However the parks there were a MAJOR disappointment.

I love Paris and would not recommend staying at Disneyland. Just too far, you want to be able to walk around in the evenings. Try to stay near the things you want to see.

I did like the park, but I went in November and it was decorated for Christmas (and empty!)

If you want to only do one day in Paris, then staying at DLP is OK. Yes, it's more expensive and yes, you "paid" for ticket media that may not be used. But, if you only have one day it is not worth it to check out of DLP, haul your bags to the train, go to Paris, check into your hotel (which may not be ready) and then do your sight-seeing. Believe me. We did just that in August and it didn't work out well at all.

However the parks there were a MAJOR disappointment.

Having been to all Disney parks except Disney Seas in Japan I would have to rank DLP and the Paris Studios at the bottom of my list. Was I disappointed that there was no Country Bears, no Tiki Room, no Splash Mountain, no Pooh and no Jungle Cruise? Yes. Was the Studios kinda lame in that "new park opened too soon" way? Yes. Was I delighted with Discoveryland the Jules Verne themed "Tomorrowland"? Yes! Did my daughter adore Adventure Island? Yes! Did Big Thunder Mountain kick butt? Yes! We also really liked Fantasyland, the dragon under the castle :). Were we disappointed? A little. Was I happy just to be in a Disney park? Yup!

A helpful site from someone on the aol travel board is www.anamericaninparis.com Fred has good suggestions and write ups on hotels. Email me if you want some further suggestions. We like to stay in St.Germain (6th Arr.) It is more of a neighborhood but close to all the sites.
