Ok, I have a wonderful cat is now 1. He doesn't have a cat climbing tower thing, but I want to get one for Xmas. Any suggestions?

Thanks. I went to Petsmart yesterday and was like "you want how much for that? "

Shop around. We found the ones at PetSmart to be very expensive, but we also have a Pet Supermarket and they were much cheaper there.

We built ours. It is about 6' tall, has 3 landings and a hidey box. We had carpet left over from our house so it matched. We covered a beam with a good jute rope on the bottom section. My DH looked up various plans online.

Some scrap lumber, carpet scraps and a good staple gun and you are good to go. Took us a couple of days but we have had it now for about 8 years. We used a looped berber carpet and the cats love it.

DH also made ours, for about $5. We had leftover carpet and we went to the Habitat ReStore to buy the wood.

Our cats love it. My sister said our cats are the only ones she's seen that actually use their cat tower.

I built one years ago for our cat. Astro turf and scrap lumber. Turned out pretty well He came down with feline leukemia and had to be put down, and the vet suggested we throw everything out he had spend anytime around, and not get another cat for at least 6 months.
Current kitty has a store bought one, cost over $100, but better built than the one I built.

My advice: Unless your cat is generally sedentary, don't skimp. That doesn't mean spend as much as you can, necessarily, but get the biggest and most complex monstrosity that you can fit in your space and afford.

We have two (because our kittens spend the days in the basement, and the evenings in our loft, where our elder cat lives - be sure that the elder cat does not want to be with the kittens 24/7! :)).

This one:

... is pretty good. There's some challenge in getting up to the high ground (something which felines are hardwired to appreciate) and it's a good place to snooze.

This is the other one we have, and the kittens absolutely love it:

This one is similar to, but a lot better than, our other one:

... but is definitely the one we'd get now.

I bought a brand new on off of Craigslist for my two new kittens (and after getting sticker shock at Petsmart :scared1: )

They loved it at first then, like my older ones, basically ignore it.

We have a 3 level one that we got from Petco.

We've had it for a year. It's 4 or 5 feet high & sits in our sunroom right next to the windows. Our 2yr & 3yr old cats love it. It cost about $120.00. Worth every penny. :thumbsup2

A picture of ours...

Your kitty looks like one of mine!!! :goodvibes

We have a 6 foot cat tower in one room and one that is smaller (maybe 4 foot tall) in the bedroom. They LOVE it!! I think the taller the better, but my cats like being up high away from the dogs. ;)

Someone once told me that cat towers were a waste of money and they wouldn't use them....they were horribly wrong!! Mine use them to sleep all day long and also they do use them as scratching posts. :thumbsup2

That's our kitty that got sick and passed away this summer. :sad1:

If your cats stop playing with it, try spraying it with catnip or hiding treats on it. Works wonders!

LOL, I had the one a PP posted a picture of, the one with the leopard print.

We are on out second from ebay and it is just about time for a new one. I have 4 cats, so they scratch all the sisel off and generally destroy them in 2-3 years. The ones I have gotten off ebay have been plenty sturdy(one of my cats is a 22 lb. Bengal) and are a lot cheaper than those at the pet store. Just make sure you count in the shipping as you are bidding. Some are very cheap with $100 shipping.

Looking at these right now...

I had two of these things and my cat never once went near them. Waste of space is all they were good for.

Maybe borrow one, or pick one up cheap at Goodwill first. I bought a really nice one for my current cat. She didn't want anything to do with it! I even rubbed it down with catnip. I would put her on it and she would literally hiss at me. She hated it! I ended up giving it away on Freecycle. :(

whatever you buy dont loose the instructions! I did on my last tree ($50 at fleet farm) and I never could figure out how to put it back together so my mom built me one. It cost her $20 total (plus a few parts she took off mine)
