(for my mother) smoking on balcony of non-smoking room?

WOW, I don't think anyone is being hard on smokers in general. The drifting smoke comment was made about a smoker who was smoking in a NON-smoking building. Usually, if you request a non-smoking building, you don't want to be around smoke, nor do you want someone smoking on their balcony and having it drift towards you. Some people find the smell of cigarette smoke offensive. There's really no reason why a smoker who is staying in a non-smoking building can't take a walk outside the building to light up.

WOW,

DVC members that request non-smoking buildings, shouldn't have to in-hale second hand smoke from below in a non-smoking villa at OKW. As zulaya and I have posted earlier, all they have to do is take a very short walk away from the building.

But a very good point was brought up, in the DVC resorts of WLV, BCV & BWV there are not smoking buildings but smoking floors. The smoking floor villa guests should be able to smoke on their balcony since they have booked a smoking room and the non smoking rooms booked by guests, whether they are smokers or not, should have no form of smoking allowed in the room or balcony. But the part that makes it so funny is as Cris pointed out the smoking floors at the DVC resorts are not the top floors so even if you book a nonsmoking 3rd floor room at BWV and another guest that booked a 2nd floor designated smoking room was smoking on their balcony, which is certainly allowed by anyone standards since it is a smoking villa and the villa inclludes the balcony, the guests on the 3rd floor non smoking villa would probably get the same if not more of the offensive smoke than if the guests on a balcony right next to your villa were smoking.

WOW,
I have two children with pretty bad asthma. I request and have always received nonsmoking rooms for medical reasons. We have had more then one trip to an emergency room due to a serious asthma attack. While we may have other serious problems in this world, I can't control most of those problems. However, I can and WILL do whatever is necessary to keep my kids healthy. So, yep, drifting smoke is actually a VERY BIG concern of mine.

Boy, I had no idea of the "can of worms" I was opening. I just hadn't thought the whole scenario through before I posted. As a non-smoker myself, I try to stay as far away from smokers as I can get.
Like I said, I will book a smoking room for my mom so she doesn't have to worry about making someone else uncomfortable.
And I have the same concerns (as Lisa stated) for my ds, as he has asthma too.
He doesn't see his grandparents too often since they live so far from us, so it hasn't been an issue.
I hope we can put this post to bed now. I really don't want anyone to be upset by it, and it wasn't meant for the debate board!

At the request of the original poster, this thread is "put to rest"
