I just finished The Harry Potter 20th Anniversary Special on HBO Max and I give it two very enthusiastic thumbs up 👍🏻👍🏻. It’s definitely worth the $14.99 for one month of HBO Max in order to watch it.

I also watched on HBO Max, Harry Potter & The Sorceror’s Stone - the Magic Movie Mode. This is awesome. You definitely need to watch this - I learned a lot of tidbits about this movie I never knew.

Now I’m watching…
Prisoner of Azkaban
Half Blood Prince
Deathly Hallows 1 & 2

I wish there were more hours in the day so I can watch them all.

Harry Potter confused me. The first movie was all about magic and joy and Christmas. The movies got progressively darker from that point on! Maybe that's an understatement... just seems like that to me :(

I should read the books.

Definitely read the books - they are so good!
I’ve read them twice and I’m about ready to read them again in 2022 🙂👍🏼

A few weeks ago, I found out one of my closest friends really likes the movies, but had never read the books. I told her the books are better and explain more about the people and the backgrounds. She didn't want to. Alright...

Last week she started watching the movies and all of a sudden asks me 'I still dont get why Voldemort wanted to kill James and Lilly to begin with'. And then I had to explain how the prophecy worked and everything that was left out of the movies. Her mind was blown.

The movies relied so heavily on the viewers knowing the books and filling in the blanks.

If anyone is in the Philly area, the Franklin Institute is having a exhibit on the HP films w/ a lot of props from the movies and whatnot. I believe it starts mid Feb and runs for at least 2 months....the website has specifics about how long it will be there and a better description of the actual exhibition. Google Franklin Institute Harry Potter & it will come up-sorry tried to post the website but it's not sticking for some reason. I think it's www.fi.edu

I'm pretty sure we'll try to make time to go see it.

I have only seen the first three films, haven't read the books, and even I know that Voldy wanted Harry dead to prevent Harry from killing Voldy. The parents were only protecting Harry. I have no idea if I learned this from three movies or from cultural osmosis.

PS - My plan is to rewatch the first three films and continue onward. Ever since I tested positive as Slytherin in the HP test, I also knew that the filmmakers were trying to sully the Slytherin name. That's a lot of nerve thinking all Slytherin are villains. The kind of nerve that makes me want to see Griffyndorks fall into an empty hotel pool, the kind of falling that happens because I had pushed them!

HBO was worth it for us for the same reason, saw most of the movies Thanksgiving to Christmas but not the special, yet.

Also has Billions, so we were finally able to see the way the last season ended are are waiting for the new one to start.

Succession is fantastic, incredibly well done.

The Matrix Resurrections is on there too, no idea what the critics were going on about. Maybe it was too complicated for some who don't know the story well so maybe a rewatch of the older filmes but we loved it.

I watched the reunion special last night. Yep, ugly crying! I was a total mess at the end. It was wonderful though!!! Also realized I need to rewatch the last 3 movies. I have seen the other ones many times, but I don't think I ever rewatched those.

The special was fantastic! I cried, I laughed...just perfect. It made me want to go rewatch the whole shebang. And how AWESOME was it that Alan Rickman went and found out the truth about Snape from JK and wouldn't tell anyone!!! Just to nuance his performance. Perfection!

I enjoyed it, but I'm much more of a book fan. I only saw the first three movies because they had to cut so much out.

Thanks! I didn't know about this. :thumbsup2

Yes, it's like watching the Cliff Notes version. (Or Monarch Notes.)

Even when you've read the books, the scenes in the movies are so tightly clipped together, often they don't really allow the moments it takes to process what one saw and to then have an emotional reaction to what one saw. Sometimes one needs an extra split second to process. Yet the movies is already onto the next moment. It relies on one already knowing it from the books. "Here's this moment DONE Now onto the next."
