Sweety, music has ALWAYS been a big thing. MJ didn't start that.
I don't listen to pop. Video killed the radio star and looking good counts for more than talent now. Guess you're to young to remember when musicians could actually play instruments and really sing.
I don't consider anyone on your list a true musician, they're all pop phenoms who will be forgotten in 100 years (with the possible exception of Madonna, shudder).
Do you guys seriously consider Brittany and Justin Timberlake musicians??????? Let alone ARTISTS? Really? The mind boggles. I can see MJ (as a musician, not an artist), but The Backstreet Boys?![]()
And by the way, I'm not super old or anything. MJ was huge when I was a kid. I remember ragging on my sister for having a Thriller poster of him when I was 9-10. Even then I didn't like pop.
Oh well, RIP MJ the king of POP.
If you don't like Pop music than that is fine, but I don't think it is fair for you to critize the people who do like to listen to it. I don't know what kind of music you listen to but I would not critize you for liking it.
Regardless of how big you think any of the people who consider him an influence are, he still did influence them in one way or another.
Also by definition MJ was an artist, he practiced an art which was writing music and just like any other art it may be attractive to one person, but not another and that does change the fact that it is art.
