i know DVC members generally plan at least 7mos in advance... but i believe that at some point or other, many members have tried to book a last minute trip before.

so i thought i would do a poll here regarding that.

if you have ever tried to book a last minute reservation less than 2 months in advance, please share your experience (were you successful? which resort?) and also vote in the poll for which month(s) you think are easiest to secure a room very last minute.

TIA!

(if you don't want to vote, but want to just view the results of the poll, please don't vote randomly, as that will skew the results. click here instead. thanks!)

We've only owned for two years, so I don't have much experience at booking. I did plan and book a Sept. trip in under two months at BCV. It was the first year it opened, so that may have been why I was able to book on such short notice.

I think I just got lucky.. Last January I was near Vero, so just stopped in to look it over. Didn't have motel reservations, so guest services called member services, and I got a studio at BCV for three days. Within a couple hours I was all checked in. The service was just incredible!

this was very hard, because i have made ressies 2 months out for different months and most of them were waitlist but all came thru closer to my arrival. but i think jan and sept would be easy months, all though i wanted ressies for feb three days out and okw was the only resort that was available, decide to pay cash for a great rate at wl.:teeth:

I voted for January because of the fact that most of the resorts are not booked after the first couple of days of the month and it's smooth sailing at the parks as well.

I've got limited 'history' because I've only made reservations for two official DVC trips and both times I've reserved being two months or less out.

Our first trip 'home' was this past October at Old Key West resort and there were no issues except for a waitlist on a Thursday which came through shortly after I placed the initial ressie. This was for both our first trip 'home' and to visit the Food & Wine Festival at EPCOT for the first time as well. Our home resort is OKW so we wanted to stay there first, but I did inquire about the availability of BWV and BCV and they were both booked up. So, if you are looking at reserving at either of those spots (obvious great location for Epcot) you wouldn't want to wait until the 2-month timeframe.

Our next official trip 'home' will be in late April and I just made those ressies recently. We wanted to stay closer to the Magic Kingdom because of our little one and we reserved at the Villas At Wilderness Lodge. We're still on the waitlist for our Wednesday of the trip, but since there is still about a month and a half left, so we should be fine. :teeth:

We leave tomorrow for Vero Beach (first trip to any DVC). We are going to Orlando for a wedding and decided to tack on a visit to VB. (We closed in January, COULDN'T go to Orlando and not check out our membership :)).

We were thrilled to be able to make reservations at such a late date. My biggest concern when joining was availability and this experience has lessened that concern. Woo hoo! (Trip report sometime next week).

We did it a month in advance for a trip in early December. Did an exchange to AKL.

Hmmm, looking like twin peaks in Jan and Sept. (aaahhh, I remember Twin Peaks, what a neat show that was; a bit twisted, but kinda cool and unexpected).

thanks for the votes.

you know what i find interesting... Jan + Sep are Adventure season, so it makes sense that people feel they are the easiest to book last minute.

but if you think about it, wouldn't that also mean that the next cheapest season, Choice season, would also be pretty easy to book last minute?
in fact, it's the opposite, as Oct, Nov, and Dec are the hardest to book last minute.

so i don't get it , did DVC just not anticipate that that would happen when they were setting up the seasons? because if they had known that Oct, Nov, and Dec would be so high occupancy, wouldn't they have set the point costs higher?
