I've not read the book, and probably won't. I see the stuff everyday and feel that my money and time are better spent at the shelter. BUT, that is only my personal decision, and I hope that everyone that reads the book takes away a better understanding of intimate partner violence and how it is destoying communities. I also hope that it motivates people into action in their local battered women shelters and get on the phone to their local politicians to strengthen the laws that protect women and their children. I am proud of Sharon Rocha for taking her daughter's tragedy and using it to assist other victim's of crime.
It isn't just the beautiful and vibrant people that always end up a murder victim. Sadly, Laci is now another statistic in the fight against domestic violence and murder. Pregnant women are more likely to be killed by a spouse or partner than any other means. I am glad that her family was able to keep this in the spotlight and get some justice for her and that baby's murder, but we cannot forget all of the women sitting in shelters RIGHT THIS MINUTE because someone who claims to love them has harmed them, or the women who are still in the relationships afraid to leave.
