How's this for a carefully crafted image; that ranch in Crawford that the Bush people like to pretend is just a place for a cowboy to come home too? Well, it was purchased in 1999 when Bush decided to run for President. There are no horses on that "ranch" and there are 3 longhorns, 2 of which were given to Bush as a gift and the 3rd one was born to the longhorn Bush named "Elton". Go figure. And that old-fashioned style ranch house you see in the photo ops? That's not where the Bush family lives. Their house is completely off-limits.

How interesting! I didn't know any of this.

I know when I see the pictures of that house I've always wondered why they would live in such a simple house. I should've known.

Outside. Bush "rallies" are private events where all participants are prescreened. No, I'm not kidding.

Really? The Kerry event I went to was ticketed, but you could print a white ticket (one that put you in the back) on the internet. I had a blue ticket that a friend got for me. I could have been near the stage if I got there when the gates opened, but I'm always late so I was about 60 feet back next to the media. We had to go through metal detectors and a bag check. No food or drink or anything that could be thrown was not allowed in. One young woman had to give up her hacky sack! There were also no hand-made signs allowed in, expect for the special people who sat behind Kerry on stage.

I just checked the President's calendar and it looks like he's not coming back to Wisconsin in the next week.

There is, however, this event tomorrow:

Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) will stop by a phone bank for President Bush at the Eau Claire County Republican Party office.

Senator Santorum?!?! What are they thinking?

Yes, that's what I was thinking. Do you read Dan Savage's weekly column "Savage Love"? We get it here in The Onion.

they must be desperate!

And now Bush has sent out Conda-geez-did-I-screw-up-again-Rice to campaign. When was the last time you heard of a National Security Advisor go out on the campaign trail?

Remember, they didn't want Rice to testify before the 9/11 commission because of executive privilege, but they've go no problem having her shill for the re-election campaign.

Do you think Rice will mention her "no one could've imagined planes used as missiles" comment? Or maybe the August 6, 2001 PDB titled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike in US"?

Either they're truly desperate or they're acting on the old adage "You can fool some of the people some of the time".

They're hoping election day is that "some of the time".

I have many Kerry campaign workers staying at our house starting tomorrow. It will be exciting just to somewhat near the last minute frenzy of it all!
Kerry's in, a sure fire victory, no doubt in my mind.
I hope that we can get to the seacoast on Monday to see him. I have to plan for that one.

I forwarded him the Tampa newspaper link that Snoopy posted. He said he totally agreed with the article and has decided to go with Kerry. :teeth:

Isn't that interesting, my Republican husband also was very moved by that Tampa Tribune article. Not enough to commit either way about his vote -- I guess I'll know what he decided on November 2.

But I'm glad I could help with the cause. :)

A recent article in NYTimes said that Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida would be the battle grounds for the election and that the deciding votes for the president could be cast in Pittsburgh, Columbus, and Tampa.

If Pittsbugh is a battle ground, then Kerry is definitely winning the fight. People were lined up for a half of a mile at least to attend the rally yesterday. The turn out was far larger than the Kerry campaign had expected and at least twice what it was when Gore ran. People are so fired up, young and old, people of all colors. A snap shot of the crowd at the Kerry rally would look nothing like the crowds at the Bush events.

The college students were particularly nice, and the few Bush supporters that attended were treated with respect, not necessarily with open arms, but they were definitely not relegated to a "free speech" zone or thrown in jail.

Mr. Kerry looked strong and confident, and Teresa looked fantastic, but got a bit flustered at some of the college students shouting "57 varieties" and "we love ketchup." What do you say to that? Mr. Kerry came into the crowd at the end of the speech to shake hands, and the Secret Service seemed to be scrambling a bit to cover that situation. My kids had a great time but were too tired to stay at shake hands.

As we left Pittsburgh, it was like a parade, with all the Kerry supporters beeping their horns and waving their signs. It was fun, and my four year old says he wants to do it again next year.

Maybe I will send that article to some "very weak" Bush supporters. They voted for him in 2000, now they don't like either candidate, but are either voting party line or voting in fear.

Anyone noticed the negitivity at the 'Nick kids pick Kerry' thread? Quite amusing.

I just saw a recent poll that said 'pets of prospective voters' picked bush...Would that make them feel better, I wonder?

Speaking of absentee ballots, here's a little bit of information from my county in Florida:

On the front of the envelope that contains the absentee ballot, the instructions on how to fill out the absentee ballot says " Use blue or black pen or pencil". However, on the ballot itself, it says "Use blue or black pen". No mention of pencil.

Coincidence? Or more of the same?

It's almost compelling to watch ....... like a train wreck. ;)

Particularly noteworthy coming from a conservative leaning newspaper.

Go Kerry Go!

Very good article, thanks for posting it! It sums up many of my opinions about Bush too. (Just sent it to my undecided DH):D
