So, it was thanks to these boards that we tried Citricos, Biergarten, Ohana, etc... last vacation and we loved them! So, I'm seeing that lots of you like Jiko. I'm making reservations for my deluxe dining plan for my upcoming vacation and am looking at making a reservation at Jiko........

this is my problem: I've looked at the dinner menu and I have no clue what I would eat! The foods aren't your run of the mill restaurant foods and many of them are exotic. I'm allergic to shellfish and don't eat much fish but I can eat pretty much anything else. What do ya'll order?!?!?

I love the taste of Africa, the braised short ribs, the filet with mac and cheese, and the pork tenderloin. I also have adored EVERY soup I've ever tried at Jiko.

We had a small complimentary soup made w/ cauliflower and it was excellent for 2 adults and 2 children. They also had bread, it was okay.

Apps:
2 children- fruit
DH- Flatbread BBQ Chicken- yum
Me- some type of spring roll- pretty good

Dinner:
child- pizza
child- pb&j
adults- filet & mac& cheese- YUM The African server said it was the best.

Dessert:
2 children S'mores- they didn't like and neither did DH & me
DH- Pistachio Creme Brule (sp?) he said it was good
Me- Jiko Chocolate trio it was okay

Overall the filet was EXCELLENT! We enjoyed it and plan to return.

The wine and beer selections are great. For food, the huz luvs the filet with mac and cheese. He's on a mission to try it every where filet is on the menu at WDW... and says this is the best. I had a coffee bbq short rib which is awesome.

They are very accomodating and will let you change the sides if there is one you prefer.

We recently ate at Jiko for the first time. The seared ostrich filet accompanied by kamut was very, very good (I would describe the taste as similar to a very lean, tender cut of beef), as were the braised short ribs, which were very tender and tangy. My husband tried the Kejenou, a West African seafood stew, and he said it was wonderful. If you're not full by dessert, I highly recommend the Lemon-White Chocolate Mousse. To die for! There are so many wonderful dishes to choose from at Jiko! You can't go wrong. There is also a very nice selection of South African wines.

I highly recommend the taste of Africa - try all 3 dips together. Yum. I loved the wrecker fish.

We gotten into lamb in our household. I ordered the lamb. It was excellent. Loved the flavor of the seasoning on the lamb and the lentils. Oh. So yummy.

DH had an excellent curry shrimp thing, but I know you are allergic.

DS had the child steak sub the mac n cheese for the potatoes. Also excellent.

Had the tastes of Africa bread appie, and it was okay. It was fun to try the different breads and dips. LOVED the flatbread we got. We got a special flatbread, not the chicken one, I'd have to read my review to remember byt it was so good. Didn't care for the chocolate dessert on the menu. It was too heavy. Too rich. Too much. Would have prefered something lighter.

We always get the taste of Africa and then I usually get the BbQ chicken flatbread.

What food do they serve with the AKL safari?

Do you mean the sunset safari at AKL? For that they serve you family style, 3 offerings for each of 3 courses. I can't remember what they served for appetizers. The main course was the Filet of Beef, the Halibut (or whatever fish) with tomato-type sauce and sweet potato crispies, and some type of chicken. For dessert, all I remember was that pistachio creme brulee with chocolate crust was one of the choices.

I've never had a bad meal there. The Ostrich is amazing - but just be aware that it is served rare/medium rare and you don't pick how it's cooked. But frankly, if you cook Ostrich anymore than that it would be ruined.

The Short Ribs are great. The flatbreads, salads and any of the appetizers are good too. I especially like the Crispy Savanna Rolls.

And for dessert, nothing beats the Lemon-White Chocolate Moose.

My favorite is the filet with mac & cheese...of course, it's also the only thing I've had there  (And I've been 3 times!) I plan on branching out in October when we go!

Another vote for the shortribs. Quite excellent, I ordered the filet and ended up eating most of my wife's shortribs instead! :)

The soups are hidden gems here; most people go for the flatbreads and they are good but the soups are always amazing. I thought the ostrich was okay but nothing compared to the soups. Last month it was a tomato soup but my all time favorite was the chantarelle w/pumpkin seeds.

The short ribs are probably the best entree. We've eaten here many times and have tried to get everything (hard to do with changing menus) and I like the ribs the best out of every one we have tried.

Trio of Breads and Dips - the Naan is amazing.

The Ostrich Filet appetizer - really great if you like earthy flavors. The kamut in it is really good - kind of like a cross between rice and cracked wheat to me.

BBQ Chicken Flatbread - sooooo tasty. The combo of the tangy sauce with the sweet and sour notes of the apple and jicama is delicious!
