For Indy Area Dis-ers. A Shameless plug.

For you Indy area music lovers – I want to make shameless plug. Thus Sunday the 13th there is a concert at Hilbert Circle Theatre downtown by the New World Youth Orchestras (of which DS is a member and I am the “rehearsal manager”). It is an incredible group of three orchestras (one for Elementary school kids, one for (mostly) middle school kids and one for (mostly) high school kids. They draw the best student musicians from all over the state and they play the actual pieces a regular symphony would play (rather than playing the “student version”). This weekend they have a soloist playing with them that graduated with his music and math degrees at age 16, his masters at 17 and his PhD at 18. Also, a guest narrator, the actor your kids would know as Mr. Krabs from Spongebob. The concert is at 3:00 and it is a great change of pace and a great way to show your kids the endless possibilities for them. Come on down!

OK, end of shameless plug.

shameless plug bump.

I wish I could, hopefully others can. :)

Ooooh Clancy Brown eh? Adults may know him as the main guard in Shawshank Redemption or as the evil priest on HBO's Carnivale. I wish we could but we will be out of state this weekend. Good luck on the performance though!

It was a wonderful performance all the way around. Rehearsals on Saturday were a hoot. Clancy Brown did a run through with the orchestra narrating the piece as Mr. Krabs. The kids loved it. I was backstage trying to describe to another staffer who he was (most people have seen him but don't know his name I guess). I was telling them that my favorite movie he was in was "Buckaroo Banzai". Just at that moment he turned the corner, looked at me and said "you must be over 40". A very nice guy. But the highlight was the violin solist, Corey Ceravsek. An incredible artist and very down-to-earth. He did a masterclass for the kids the night before the concert. Even let one of them play is 1728 Stradivarius. A great weekend for all us music geeks in Indy!

I was wondering how it went. It sounds like it was a great show!

I spent my Sunday afternoon watching my 6 1/2 yr old niece performing in her first community theater show. She was in the chorus of a musical version of "Tom Sawyer". She was great (of course!). Her mom played the violin in the show's orchestra.
