For fans of animation and art--a movie that will blow you away, The Secret of Kells

Since we're all Disney fans, that should make us more or less fans of quality animation. I found this movie on Netflix, and I was absolutely blown away by the beauty of its artwork. Briefly, it's the story of The Book of Kells, the Irish national treasure that was created in the 800s. The Book of Kells is one of the most prized and beautiful illuminated books ever created. The movie celebrates the artistic skill involved with its creation through the story of a little boy, Brendan.

I've never seen animation or art so original and beautiful in a movie. It's hard to describe other than it's in the style of an ancient illuminated book. It's fairly short, and well worth your time.

Oh, it's on Netflix now?! I've seen the preview for this quite some time back on an Irish blog I follow. Glad to see it made it's way across the pond. Checked out a clip of it on Amazon. I see what you mean. The animation is beautiful. Reminds me of Mary Blair's work. Thanks for sharing, I'm going to have to rent it.
