For December regulars-what do you bring to wear?

Hello-we are going on our first Dec. WDW trip and I am kinda stumped on how to pack. We usually go late Spring or Fall and honestly I over pack for those times of the year. So I am trying to get an idea of what to bring based on the "usual" weather in Dec.

If it makes a difference-we will be staying in a DVC with a washer/dryer in the room so we can throw wash in if need be.

Thanks so much for any help/advice you could give me with:)

I am a November regular(went once the first week of Dec) and truly it is hit and miss. Most time we wear shorts, and just a hoodie till about 11am... then shorts/shirt till 5pm when the sun goes down. Then it is definite jeans and sweatshirt. We also have hit unbelievable cold and wind. I had my kids winter coats as we flew from Pittsburgh and I still had to buy them a blanket for the stroller. If you are going for a just a couple days you can wait and see what the weather forecast is, but if you are staying 5 days or more, the weather forecast can change dramatically from the time you leave home till you get there.

December is a tricky month.

Bring things that can be layered. One December we were in our coats. 2 years ago I kept washing the same pair of shorts.

Pack shorts & a scarf & gloves.

Hope you have a great time!:santa:

Everyone says layers. I agree. It's funny how different one week can be from the next. I'm an early packer, but we always go in January. So, the day before we leave, I end up repacking everything based on the weather forecast.

We've been really lucky and worn shorts everyday but one in our 3 trips down in winter. But, it's not the norm.

The tricky part is that there is no "usual" weather for december, it varies greatly. Three years ago I was there and wearing shorts and sandals but last year we went during the same time and had to wear jeans, fleece jackets, vests, and scarfs. I would say look at the weather report before you go but pack for both ends of the spectrum, because personally I'd rather be safe than sorry. And if you end up packing wrong, you have an excuse to get disney apperal to supplement!:cool1:

Pack to layer!!! You may end up with just needing t shirts but we have been where we have t shirt sweatshirt and a jacket with gloves and scarf...so now we just pack to layer..then if it gets too warm..start shedding. It's better to shed than to be too cold.

One word: Layers

We've been going to WDW in early December for 20+ years. We've experienced everything from shorts/t-shirts to winter jackets and gloves. Sometimes in the same weekend.

I went last year on the 6th and this is how it went. Left Newark, NJ and didn't have to change cause it was so cold in Florida!! For a Jersey Girl, it did make it more festive to go to the Osborne lights in the cold! It was 55, then 65 then 80 and then 85 and we were sweating!! Next day? Back down to 55 and raining and cold. The day we left it was 80 again. Now, the week before we got there it was in the upper 70's low 80's. After? Same. So, layer layer layer. I liked my poofy vest and long sleeves. Also, wore a mickey santa hat to the christmas party and NEVER was too hot!! Have a great time!

hi! i'm from north florida, about three hours away from orlando. as of today, oct 31st it is 77 degrees and the coolest it has been all week. it can get pretty cold in december, or it can be in the 80s, its very tricky. i would bring warmer clothes for the evening time but pack some shorts, t shirts and a light jacket. florida's weather is so bi polar but our coldest months are january and february.

Just looked at a Frommer's guidebook for WDW--the average high for Nov. was given as 71 F., the average low, about 51 F. Something similar for Dec.

We went last year for Christmas and it was 30 to 40 degrees at night. We had brought sweatshirt jackets that had fleece linings. I had to buy long sleeve shirts while I was there for them to put under the jackets to keep them warm. It was the first time I needed to drink hot chocolate while I was in Disney.

Thanks for the info :) I am heading there in Dec for first time, I'm not used to cold weather so will be interesting.

When you say warmer clothes for the nights, if you are at one park do you go back to the resort to change and then return (when parks are open late into night) or take a change of clothes with you?

My first time to go in December this year also. Thanks everyone for all of the info. We will have warmer coats since we will be leaving Philly. I will just pack layers for every one!!

We've gone in Dec. twice (95 and 97) and are going again this year. Back then, both times, it was chilly (40's?) in the a.m. and warmed up to 70's plus and humid by lunch time.

This year I'm making sure to pack a couple of zip-front hoodies which we'll wear over T-shirts. We always carry a small sling so the sweatshirts can be either tied around our waists or stuffed into our bag when the weather warms up. I plan on bringing both jeans and shorts and keeping a close eye on the weather report. Plus two pairs of sneakers in case one gets wet.

If it gets REALLY cold, we'll have the heavier jackets we wore to the airport, since we're coming from a cold climate. I'll stuff a pair of those tiny magic gloves in everyone's pocket.

Thank you to everyone who has replied. We will be coming from NY and so we will have warm clothes when we get on the plane, but I just didn't know how much of what to pack.

Having a washer/dryer will help-even if we do suffer from outfit redundancy ;)

And thank you to the poster who said bring extra sneaks in case one pair gets wet. We usually live in Crocs and sport sandals so it doesn't matter if they get wet, but we will definitely have to plan for sneakers-thanks!:thumbsup2

We are going Dec. 16-25 and while we are packing in layers I hate it. With 3 young kids ages 5,6,7 layers just mean more to carry for me. I have only tie so much around their waists and they are too old to bring a stoller.

If i know it is going to warm up in a hour or two we will just wear shorts and deal with the little chill.

If it is colder we will layer as needed.
