For Autographs--pillowcase, mat for frame or autograph book?

Which one is easier to carry around the park, easier for characters to sign and lasts longer for a keepsake?

I was looking at doing a pillowcase for each dd. They have some iron on designs on the creative dis section that would work. I don't know if sharpies would be permanent on those and how they would last through washings.

I think an autograph book would just be set aside by my dds--I would not be making our own. That looks like alot of work and I am unsure of what characters we would see. Also, I do not scrapbook so autograph cards would not work.

I think photo mats would be ok, but unsure which characters to sign the mat.

Thanks for any advice.

Our photomat is my favorite of all our autograph things!! It's right on the wall with pictures in it, and I love seeing it all the time. But I agree it's a little bulkier to carry around than the pillow case, and I do like that idea too. - Sharpies work fine as long as you "set" it in a hot drier before you wash it.

You can buy Fabric Markers at Michael's or Hobby Lobby and use on the Pillow Cases. That is what we are going to try this week when we go for our 1st trip!!! I downloaded the pillowcase pics and printed them out (from the Creative DISign thread) onto iron-ons. The pillowcases themselves turned out cute if nothing else!!!:thumbsup2

I did a photo mat too.

I was planning on taking it to all the parks but after our first night at Chef Mickeys when the fab 5 signed it, I didn't want anymore names on it.

My kids got hats one night so the characters signed them instead.

I did autograph books in 2005 & they sit in the closet.

I look at my framed picture every day & my kids still wear their hats.

I like the pillowcase too but I think it would be more flimsy then the hat to sign.

I tried the pillowcase one year and it was a nightmare! They bled terribly. And the said they were bleedproof and for cloth, I bought them at joanne. I dont know what happened, I was upset about it. :(

Hopefully you get some good markers and have a great time. Best of luck. :)

I have been thinking a quilt would be cute, but I am not sure of how exactly I would do it. I could have a ziploc baggie with precut squares to have the characters sign or a sheet of fabric I would cut apart later. I think the precut square sound easier. Once home I can add Disney fabric squares and even print some of our photos on quilt squares. Of course I have never made a whole quilt, so I don't know how well this would work. It sounds like fun though!

I bought some of the hoops for needlework at a second hand store and was going to use that to keep the t-shirt flat and taunt for signing.

I vote for either an autograph book or pillowcase. They're easy to carry.

As for making/not making them... I went to Meijer and purchased a 4x6 artist sketch book (black cover, 4x6 blank pages) and covered the book in Mickey paper. Even if you don't decide to decorate it yourself, you could always buy a sketch book and let the kids decorate the books before you leave. I personally liked the sketch book as the pages were perforated and made them easy to pull out for our trip scrapbook (plus it was small and had 100 pages). If the craftiness is not in your genes, the pre-made books will be super easy to deal with.

Oooh.... I love the quilt idea. I'd use larger pieces than the square you want to keep because the edges will fray from handling.

We use a hooded zip-down sweatshirt. You can tie it around your waist when you don't want it on, so you don't have to carry it. When you go into a cold AC place, you can wear it.

To keep Sharpie on your shirt...
1. Wash and dry it first without using dryer sheets or fabric softener.
2. Get autographs using a plain Sharpie marker. The characters love the retractable ones since you don't have a cap to deal with.
3. Before washing it again, iron the autographs. I cover it with a dishcloth (the flour sack kind) or a pressing cloth that was soaked and then wrung out. It steams the autographs in and sets the "stain."
4. Then you can launder as usual. If the autographs start to fade over time, you can refresh them by tracing over them with a Sharpie and following step 2 again to set it.

We use the same sweatshirt for each trip so we don't have to keep getting the "basic" character autographs... We add a few odd ones each trip. We have over 100 signatures :-)
