Listening to the podcast and becoming concerned about all the warnings. I do get motion sickness on some rides but usually I'm ok if I just close my eyes. If I get queazy on the simpsons or star tours I just close my eyes and I'm fine. I would never in a million years ride the spinning side of mission space because I know that closing my eyes wouldn't help. Do you think this ride will be OK if I just close my eyes?

Not really. It is the movement all around that made me queasy. You would still feel that with your eyes closed.

The movement usually isn't what bothers me - it is the movement in combination with the visual stimulation. So if I close my eyes I still feel the movement but that's OK. Motion sickness really stinks. I'm not sure DH will be able to ride because of the weight issue.

I suffer from motion sickness, but I love rides like this. It's a tough combination. :)

Anyway, I've done some research on motion sickness. Motion sickness is primarily caused by an imbalance of the inner ear. A lot of people suffer from this, but obviously some are affected more than others.

The best way to avoid or limit the amount of motion sickness on a spinning or intense attraction is to keep your head perfectly still. As Kathy (Safetymom) already mentioned closing your eyes will not help. It's the inner ear that is causing your motion sickness not your vision. By keeping your head perfectly still (level) you are keeping your inner ears more balanced limiting the amount of sickness you will experience.

This tip doesn't work for everyone, but it does help and can limit the amount of sickness you will experience.

My daughter is 10 years old. I have to ride the T-Cups at least 2 times per Orlando vacation. She has no mercy when it comes to spinning. Keeping my head still has helped me avoid  ;)

There is no way in heck I'll ever be able to ride HPFJ. I get queasy on Star Tours and most roller coasters. The first time I rode Back to the Future years ago I couldn't walk for at least 30 minutes. I don't think a full bottle of Dramamine would be enough to get me through HPFJ. Sad. I'll walk through the castle, but as of right now there is no ride in WWOHP that I can really ride and enjoy (maybe the Hippogriff, haha). I've ridden Deuling Dragons before and while it isn't terrible, it does still affect me a little and who wants to spend all day on vacation feeling even slightly dizzy/queasy?

I can ride Tea Cups and things like a Tilt A Whirl with no problem, in fact I am the chief spinner, but I cannot do the motion simulator rides. Star Tours makes me very naseous. Once in Las Vegas I did a motion simulator similiar to Star Tours and I was out of commission almost the rest of the day. I had to go back to the hotel and lay down for a couple hours before I felt better. So I don't know how I'd do on FJ, but after the Vegas thing, I'm always afraid because I don't want to ruin the day.

The ride did not bother me and I found it thrilling.

My motion sickness gets to me when what I see does not match with what my body feels...like no reading in a car for me. The motion matched what I felt with the robotic arm.

Go ride it if you get a chance. I would hate for you to miss this ride.

I can ride Spiderman without feeling too queasy. Is Forbidden Journey along the same line of a ride as Spiderman? Thanks!

I was gonna ask this exact question! My Mom is excited to ride FJ and she rides roller coasters like a champ, but Star Tours and other simulators get her every time. Surprisingly though, she rarely has a problem with Spiderman, I guess because the car is actually moving and it's not all sim. Hope someone out there has the answer!

I am totally in the same boat - I am a HUGE HP fan , but I doubt there will be any rides I can go on...hopefully I will be able to at least walk thru the castle part and "chicken out"

Me too. I've heard SO much about the que line and how great it is, I wish UO had made a seperate line for people to just walk through to see the que. I think there are so many people who can't or won't ride FJ, it'd be great to just have a walk thru line and it would probably really help cut down the line for actual riders too.

I'm totally opposite. Put me on any roller coaster or simulator and I'm fine-get me on tea cups and I'm losing lunch. I went on a Tilt a Whirl once at the Jersey Shore and that was quite enough thank you. It is the one ride at MK that I have never done and will never do.

I'll probably go on FJ, but not until fall and things calm down a bit over there.

A bit of a long shot, but do you think that taking travel sickness medication prior to going on these rides might help?

Or maybe using those sickness bands, where the band presses on some pressure point on your wrist? They've worked for me in the past :)

I hope you find some way around it!

I rode Forbidden Journey today. I thought it was intense but I did not feel ill and I cannot ride the teacups anymore.

Yesterday, I rode the Simpsons and I couldn't handle that. I think since FJ is on a track that made a difference. With that said, I don't think I would ride it again due to some of the movements of the car. I screamed like a little girl during the ride.
