DH is taking me to NYC this weekend (Saturday and Sunday) for my birthday. We have hotel ressies in mid-town Manhattan.

We live about 3 hours away in central PA and I have been watching the weather. It calls for snow here and in NY, but no one is saying how much. We have heard anywhere from 1 inch to 1 foot. Just wondered what your local weather is stating. We are trying to decide whether to postpone the trip or not.

Oh......any suggestions for a nice Italian meal? I would love to go to a nice local place, not a chain since we will be childless!!!

Thanks!
Karen

NYC keeps on ticking.....snow or not. I wouldn't worry about the weather.

As far as restaurants are concerned....there are millions of Italian restaurants. My favorite is in Little Italy.....Angelo's.

Alot of people love Carmine's. It's casual, inexpensive and the food is good.

It all depends on what you would like to spend, quite frankly.

Do you have a ballpark figure?

Another vote for Carmine's in the theater district.

hi gina!

Dinner for under $70 or so is fine!!! Our hotel is located at 157 W 47th St. if this narrows down the hundreds of choices we have!!!;) ;)

We plan on getting to NYC by lunch time on Saturday, checking out which broadway tickets we can pick up that day, and a nice dinner. Then heading home Sunday afternoon. No other plans except walking, shopping, and having a nice time!!! I know once we get to the city, the snow won't be a problem, its getting there!!

Thanks!

My favorite un-touristy Italian is L'Impero, in Tudor City (east 40s), the food is to die for and it's very local. The neighborhood of Tudor City itself is beautiful as well - so close to midtown yet so tranquil, nice parks. Grifone on 46th st between 2nd and 3rd aves is great too, it's very small, upscale but not uncomfortable. The service is wonderful there, they make you feel at home. We also like Osteria Laguna on 42nd street, also between 2nd and 3rd - it's easy to walk in without a reservation and the food is great. It's a little more casual than the others. For slightly more touristy fare, Naples 45 is good, at 45th and Park I believe. The room itself reminds me of Spoodles, it's a lot of fun - try the hazelnut crepes if you go!

Good luck and have a great time!

Beware, before you go to Carmines, everything is served family style... and alot of it. As long as you and DH want to eat the same thing, it is a wonderful and inexpensive place to eat. I've never spent more than $100 at Carmines for 4 people, and that includes a bottle of wine and tip.

Here's what Zagat has to say about Carmine's (200 W. 44th Street bet. Broadway & 8th Avenue - 212-221-3800)

"These 'packed' and pulsating 'mega'-Italians are best known for their 'garlic-laden', 'family-style' 'eating orgies' and affordable price tags; count on getting a 'doggy bag the size of a steamer trunk.'"

:)

One of my favorite inexpensive eats is Johns Pizzaria on 44th and 8th (right next door to the theatre where The Producers is playing).

Dinner for 4 there one night cost us $25. And it's really good good pizza. The setting is neat too - it's an old church that they converted into a restaurant, and the decor inside is period. :)

Keep in mind that there is apparently going to be an anti-war protest on 49th & 1st on Saturday, so I would think about sticking to the West side of town. :)

Thanks for all the great information. This is like a trip to WDW in a way...the hardest decision is where to eat!!!!!!
