If you're allergic to corn, are you also allergic to corn syrup?

Nick, my 14 month old, has a lot of allergies, and we've recently pinpointed corn as one of his allergens (along with eggs, chlorine, polyester, and numerous other things). I'm eliminating all corn products right now, including corn syrup, but I was wondering if I might be able to add it back before he outgrows his corn allergy. I have to make our bread or buy it at the health food store to get it without corn syrup in it. I can't really feed him any processed foods at all because they all seem to have corn syrup or eggs. I have some organic Cheerio's in my diaper bag for emergencies, but that's about it.

I know that true allergies (but not necessarily sensitivities) are to proteins, and some people with dairy allergies can have cream and butter because they're all fat and no protein. I'm guessing corn syrup is all carbs and no protein, so I was wondering if it might be similar.

my DM is allergic to corn and she is also allerigic to corn syrup. When she first found out, it was a really hard thing to eliminate from her diet because some form of corn is in all most everything. I think she lost almost 50 pounds the first few months and she wasn't heavy to begin with.

Good luck
