We are going Dec 23rd - Jan 3rd and going to get hopper tickets for 7-8 days, I've just started looking into AP's and don't really know a lot about it but I did see a thread that last year there were no hotel discounts for the week between Christmas & New Years...which would be the bulk of our trip.

Would this even be a deal for me? So with an AP only 1 in my party to have this..others would get MYW tickets? Like I said, very new to the AP questions and would love any advice or where to find more info.

Thanks!

Dawn

While I have not been paying too close attention, I do not believe there have been room discounts for APs for a while now, especially near the Holidays.

Okay, maybe I wasn't clear on what I was looking at...I was looking at the AP Codes that have been coming out and past history was that they did not offer them for the week between Christmas - New Years. I was wondering if anyone knows for sure what some benefits would be to me at that time.

We are currently looking at one of the Downtown Disney hotels so we would not have the option of the dining plan so I was curious if with the AP then getting the DDE would be a savings for us...

Really I'd just love some input from those who have an AP or are knowledgable in the benefits/disadvantages.

Thanks!

I am not "knowledgable" about AP's as I don't even own one yet - however, I did book a room for last week of March using the passholder rate and intending to purchase the pass when we arrive. I would only do it for the room discounts personally, because we don't really go so much that I am getting money's worth for admission. However, my room discount was almost $1000 for 6 nights and to purchase one AP and 3 PH instead of all 4 PH was only $179 more. The AP will cost you more than the PH, but if you are saving elsewhere it is worth it. Another option for you is AAA. They give discounts on rooms and if you wanted to add the DP (which you said you didn't) it can be done with AAA. IMO, the DP is an incredible deal - $39 for adults $12 for children (mine are 7 and 3) per day. That's A LOT of food at a good price!!
If you aren't going during an AP discount season I would look into AAA. Even without the dining plan you could get a discount on the room. Disney reservations should be able to give you what the AAA rate is. They did for me yesterday when I was booking for March.

Something you might want to consider is renting points from a DVC member. I am an AP holder and will not be renewing since the deals are better from the DVC members like a week at Key West for $500.00. Just food for thought.
