For a lover of Asian culture, which restaurant would you choose?

Trying to make a meal reservation with my 14 year old niece in mind. She is very into Asian culture, or shall I say obsessed with it. She is very into K-Pop and anime. Want to take her somewhere fun. She’s not super into sushi though. So, we made a reservation at Teppan Edo.

But now I’m thinking we should sub it out for Morimoto Asia. Food is probably better there but of course, it doesnt come with that whole immersive atmosphere that the Epcot Japan pavilion would. We will be visiting Epcot on our trip though.

What would you do?

Tokyo Dining and Moromito are probably better choices than Teppan Edo if you are looking for more authentic Asian food.

If authenticity doesn’t matter, I would suggest Yak & Yeti. The food there is very good.

The food is good at Morimoto, but if you want a more immersive experience, I would, personally, do Tokyo Dining. The service is excellent and the food is better than Teppan Edo, IMHO. My DS10 used to be really into Pokemon and every WDW trip started with a visit to the store in EP Japan followed by dinner at Tokyo Dining!

Our son loves Yak n Yeti for dinner at AK, or in Japan Katsura Grill in Epcot for quick serve. He also liked Teppan Edo, because for a Nonsushi eater Toyko Dining didnt have much interesting he would eat.

Another vote for Morimoto Asia or Tokyo Dining in no particular order since as she is not a lover of sushi it almost puts them on equal footing.

My DGD is 12, working her way up to sushi (yanno like California roll;)) but so not there yet. Still, she enjoyed the food at TD. She sampled all of the 3 types of miso soup they offered (and "stole" an extra clam from her grandfather), loved the shrimp tempura and scoffed down the butter chicken dish.
We stopped and peered into Teppan Edo and she declared it "cute for babies". There was no sneering when she said it just an observation.

I think given your niece's interest as well as the fact that you already plan to visit Epcot, TD, is the better choice. Make sure she saves part of her spending money so she's well prepared for Mitsukoshi's. I'm still sorta regretting the 90 dollar t shirt I didn't buy for the man, LOL.

I would vote for Tokyo Dining!! Morimoto Asia was nice and all on our recent visit but my whole party agreed Tokyo Dining was the better meal/experience of the two. The servers are all from Japan. The meal had a very quite and relaxing atmosphere. Morimoto Asia felt more busy and the servers may or may not be Japanese themselves. If you make a lunch reservation at opening (12pm) all the servers gather together to do a very short opening for the restaurants. Probably the same is done at the start of dinner but I've never been dined at that time before. G1404336.JPG

We enjoy Teppan Edo, but it really is not much different than our Hibachi restaurants at home. So if she has a Hibachi restaurant where she lives and if she goes there, you might want to try something else. If she has not done Hibachi, she may really enjoy Teppan Edo.

Thanks everyone for the responses! I looked at the menu for Tokyo Dining and I’m not seeing a whole lot of variety outside of sushi. Are the entrees decent there?

If she likes K-Pop she wont have much at Disney as there is no Korean Pavillion in Epcot. If she likes Anime she'' love Mitsukoshi in Epcot. For food, I love Tokyo Dining and even though the food is good at Morimoto, Tokyo Dining has a more authentic feel. The sushi is super fresh and its a must do for us every time.

Yes, I agree, in Epcot you get the dining as well as the store in the Japan section

Not only do you get to eat and shop but there is an exhibit hall as well. In December 2017 the exhibit was about the origins and history of anime.

Lots of votes for Tokyo Dining! I feel like I never hear too much about that one. Thanks everyone!

There is no "Asian culture." There is Korean culture and Japanese culture, which are very different from each other as well as the rest of Asia. Since there is no Korea Pavilion or any Korean restaurants, I think this trip will need to focus on her interest in anime.

If what I said was offensive in some way, I apologize. I fully understand that Asia is continent made up of many sovereign nations, all with their own diverse cultures and customs. I did not mean to generalize. To keep my post short and succinct, I was just giving examples of some of the things she is into. She also excels in her Chinese class at school, she dedicates a lot of her free time studying Budhism and she dreams of visiting Thailand one day, for some other examples. Sorry about that!

Personally, i am always surprised that Tokyo Dining is not mentioned more. I love it and highly recommend it.

I feel like it is a simpler(smaller) menu than Morimoto and you get the bonus of being in the Japan pavilion at EPCOT where the entire staff is actually from Japan.

Im not sure how everyone is with raw fish, but there are other options for those who prefer not to partake. Though i do recommend at least trying a tuna or salmon nigiri. Probably the easiest one to try if you are nervous. Very entry level.

Everything I have eaten there has been great. Im always bloated at the end cause we order too much.

There are things to order besides sushi at Tokyo Dining. If you plan around Illuminations, you can watch the fireworks from the balcony of the restaurant. The retail store on the ground floor is huge and is a must do for us on every trip. There is something for everyone in there. There is also a mini-museum next to the store that I think she would enjoy.
