OK, so this is for this Thursday/Friday.

I (the 14 year old, but Disneyland obsessor), want to stay at Best Western Stovall's Inn. I have stayed here before and it was quite a short walk.

My mom wants to go to Portofino, Best Wester Park Place or another near the gate hotel (back gate). At these, you have to walk through a parking lot, wait for the tram, get on a tram and then ride to Disneyland, get off and walk to the gates.

Stovall's is cheaper and I've tried to explain to her the difference, but she doesn't get it.

What do you guys think? Any other hotel ideas?

Best Western Park Place Inn is about the closest hotel there is. It is right at the crosswalk at the Main Entrance. :)

Someonesaid that they will be closing the Timon parking lot soon as in a month or less. That whole parking lot is slated for demolition. Plan A is for them to keep a road there and do tram shuttle from Simba parking lot while Plan B is to get rid of the tram stop at Main Gate and the road way thus giving them even more room and even expand DCA more.

I think you are a pretty smart kid. Just remember that some people will choose a path in life that is wrong even if everyone knows that they are wrong. Give her the facts and good luck.

Thank you for that information you guys.
I'm putting together a presentation, as I feel strongly about this.
:P
Park Place has no availibility either and even if it did, it was alot more expensive; almost as much as a Disney resort itself.

My mother has not stayed at Stovall's yet either.

Wow, what a great kid!! I'm so impressed. We've stayed at Best Western Park Place Inn about 7 years ago and Jolly Roger about 13 years ago. Those are the only 2 I've ever stayed at.

If you really feel strong about your choice, in your presentation (I'm so impressed again) maybe check out the reviews of your hotel on hotels.com, expedia, travelocity, etc. and put some of those in there to.

Good luck and your mom is one lucky lady. And if she doesn't agree, remember she is your mom and that's all the matters (be grateful she is taking you to Disneyland :)

By the "back gate", what do she mean? There's only one esplanade...you either go in via Harbor or you go in via DTD.

With Portofino you could just walk straight up Harbor. With Stovalls, the short walk is one that people avoid! People refuse to stay at Anabella b/c of that walk. :) Walking up Disneyland Dr then through GCH etc (or just going into DTD) is something people don't always enjoy.

(and despite the map, Anabella to the crosswalk isn't very far...Bret's map makes it look like it's halfway down Katella but it's not, at least not where you come out of the hotel)

Everything sounds pretty much even, to me. Doesn't seem worth making a presentation about, IMO.

What about HoJo?

OMG just read your OP again...you're going Thurs and Fri? Holiday weekend? Have fun!

Back Gate: On Katella west of Harbor is an opening in the fence which allows guests staying at hotels on Katella to walk across the parking lot to the tram stop. At one time this was a great thing because there was two stops and one was close to the gate.

Soon that will all be gone. In theory there are two options. DCA expands to engulf the tramway to Simba, the parking lot and the tram unloading just east of the Espalanade. They could leave the tramway, put in a stop at the gate, and do shuttle service to Simba.

I do not know why they do not do shuttle service to Simba other than to save on stuff that is incurred when an off road vehicle is driven on the street. It has been 10+ years since I ran a small company but I remember there was something I could write off if the vehicle was not used on the road like tractors and Disney ride vehicles. Could be safety but how ever they do it they need a shuttle as it is a 3 quarter mile walk to the monorail or Main Gate, at least.
