For 54 years my mother held me in her arms on my birthday

Today is a landmark for me. It's the first time that my mother didn't hold me in her arms on my birthday.

It's one of the most difficult times of my life...I never knew this would hurt so much and be so difficult

If you have your mother with you still...appreciate her...love her...hug her...and even if she drives you crazy, reach out to her.

If you are estranged from your mother, for any reason, no matter whose fault it is, no matter why....reach out to her NOW. Don't wait. You won't always have her and you are going to miss her very much when she is gone.

I'm so sorry that you feel so sad. But thanks for the post. My mother and I have been estranged for many years and she is determined to keep it like that. I'll have to think about your post and what I might be able to do though.

Kath, I'm sorry your BD has caused you such pain. Your Mom must have been such an exceptional woman, but I'm sure she doesn't want you unhappy, this day, or any other. I'm so sorry you're hurting.

As for your advice, it's good advice. As a matter of fact, 24 of us are getting together tomorrow night to celebrate my Mom's 60th BD and her twin sister's as well. 2 ladies with 3 kids a piece, and 9 grandkids between them both. Look out restaurant!!!

Happy Birthday Katholyn. I'm so sorry your mom can't be with you today to give you a hug. I'm one of the lucky ones whose mom is still fairly young, 70, and healthy, and although sometimes she reaches me, if you know what I mean, I am grateful that I have her. I feel your pain though, as I miss my dad terribly. It's been eight years, and sometimes feels like yesterday. I so wish I could give him a hug.
