if your going to take 4 or 5 day trips , do most people use a studio or one bedroom? has anyone been traveling like this for years, actually done this? I am tried to calculate how many points to get.

It's been a long time since we have stayed in a studio, mostly because we like the king sized bed in the one bedroom. If I had to do a studio, I'd probably do OKW for the two queen beds vs the one queen and one double sleeper sofa. Then, again, we usually stay at least a week to ten days.

Besides the king bed, the washer and dryer is a blessing. So nice to go home with clean clothing and not having to spend the first full day home doing the laundry.

We have done both but when it's only my husband and the two little ones (1 and 3) we are fine with the studio. We just sit out on the patio and drink wine when the kids are asleep and we're fine with it!

I am relatively new member, but DW and I plan on using a studio for a our shorter vacations. At our current point level of 235 points. we will likely stay in studios often as we like to go to WDW twice a year most years with a week long trip and a 5 night one.

This, of course, could change when we add more points which I know we will do.

We usually stay in 5 day chunks and we're fine with a studio.

We do two 5-night stays and one 12-night stay a year - all in studios. We've been doing it for years - pre-DVC we stayed in one hotel room. We did stay in a 2-bedroom condo for a week one year, and at the end of the week I honestly felt like it was a waste of space. We never once used the kitchen, and we never just "hung out" in the condo - we were always at the pool, or out doing stuff.

It has not been a problem for us (but we are a family that enjoys spending time together). For now, I'd rather have 22 nights of vacation a year than a king-size bed and kitchen that I won't use.

I think this comes down to the number of people. 4 or less and hit a studio. Maybe splurge for a 1BDR once in a while. I have 6 people. This is why I bought DVC. We need space (and the beds to house us). Even with 4 or less I would probrably still go 1BDR. Just for the W/D, jaquizzi, kitchen, etc..
If it was just me and DW, I'd have to ask, but would probably go with a studio.

Studios work for us (me, DH, 7yo, and 4yo) for our Sunday-Thursday trips. We splurge on a 1BR every now and then if we can "afford" the points, but don't mind doing Studio stays especially bearing in mind that we can eke a few more trips out of our points that way!

We are just a family of 3 and bought 250 points with the intention of either doing a couple of 1 week studio trips per year with a splurge every once in a great while for a larger unit if we want to bring someone else with us OR a trade out to DCL or thru II. But we wouldn't upgrade to a 1 bedroom unit just for us - we don't spend enough time in the room to be worth it. I DO however prefer a unit with a split bath tho like at VWL rather than the old style one room baths like at OKW. It just helps to be able to split up who's doing what / when. I find that very helpful when we're getting ready to go somewhere.:thumbsup2

DW and I stayed 29 nights in a studio in February at SSR. We also cooked many of our meals. It was much better being there than back home in Wisconsin.:cool1:

We didn't buy DVC to stay in studios. Even if it is just the 2 of us, we get at least a 1 bedroom. This is especially true if we are going to be staying more than a couple days. We didn't buy DVC to stay in a hotel room, and that's what we feel the studios are. We are most often in a 1 bedroom, but if we have 3 people or more, we will go for the 2 bedroom. If we have more than 6 or 7, we go for the GV. We don't usually stay as short a time as 4-5 days though. Our trips are usually 10-11.

It's DH and myself and we are empty nesters. It's because we use most of our points for 5 night family vacations, when DH and I go ourselves we almost always stay in studios. We eat most breakfasts in the room, and if we have a car, we may buy enough food for some additional meals as well. We do not feel short changed in any way at all by staying in studios. I enjoy the balcony:goodvibes We've been members since '03.

Since we both work, I think the fact that our stays nearly always include a Friday or Saturday night, that does affect our decision to stay in studios. Our upcoming BCV stay is from Wednesday to Monday for me, but only the weekend for DH.

We are very similar. Most of our trips are Wed to Mon or Thurs to Tues so lots of weekend nights. Sometimes my DH and I have a one bedroom and sometimes a studio. Depends on where we're staying, the season (Dec is much cheaper in points than Easter), etc. When we're at AKV concierge in a few weeks, I didn't see a need for a one bedroom. I won't be using the kitchen at all since breakfast will be in the concierge lounge. In October, we booked a quick weekend trip to BWV to try F&W festival for the first time (Friday to Tuesday). We booked a studio for that, too.

In summary, studios are adequate for us. I do LOVE the walk in showers in the one bedrooms though.

Any length of trip, we are in a 2br for the 4 of us(DH, myself, DS's 6 & 11). That's why we bought DVC, separate bedroom for us, and separate beds for the boys. I refuse to go on vacation and listen to the boys whine about sharing a bed, they don't at home.

For short five day trips we stay in a studio and find it to be just fine. We aren't in the room that much anyhow on a short trip. And DD is old enough that having a separate room for her to sleep in is no longer an issue. She can outlast us on most days. For a longer trip or when DD invites a friend, we get a 1 bedroom.

We've been DVC owners for 11 years and have only stayed in a studio once. That was because nothing else was available when we booked.

We have generally stayed in a 1 BR, but since our DD's are getting older (9 and 11) we've started using 2 BR's.

I can't imagine staying in a studio with the DD's.

Just what works for us!

I go to bed late and wake up early, both of which does not fit the rest of my traveling party, therefore I need a living room or a place to go so as not to disturb every one else, they need their sleep. If I stay in a Studio (very seldom, almost never, unless I can have it to myself) I'm miserable, it's hard to just lie there doing nothing, I'de rather spend the points then everyone's happy.

Same here. Just two of us (no kids) but we typically book a 1-BR.

We've stayed in studios and had a 2 bedroom for a trip with family. On our last trip we chose to stay in a standard boardwalk studio over the weekend instead of getting a 1 bdrm boardwalk view during the week.

We will eventually stay in a 1 bedroom by ourselves, but haven't yet.
Its really up to you, and what you want.

Remember, you can always do an add on later, and your maintenance fees are less until you decide to add on.
