We are half undecided for 2018. We'll have 2 stays--one in January, and one in June. The January trip is pretty much decided; I won a 2-night stay at BW Stovall's, so I'm going to go ahead and stay there for my whole January trip. Likely, we are going to go for a Wyndham motel for our June trip for the points.
Then.... my January 2019 trip would likely be a free flight (frequent flyer miles!), and at least a few free Wyndham nights (hoping!).
The proposed upcoming construction has no bearing on where I plan on staying at this point. I have several reasons for this. First and foremost, I try to avoid going back to my hotel room to nap, so daytime construction noise won't affect me. Second, there's no way that the city of Anaheim will allow after-hours construction work, so there won't be nighttime construction noise. Anaheim noise ordinance is in effect from 10pm to 7am. Essentially, those are about the hours I would probably be sleeping at the hotel anyway. Additionally, they aren't going to close the pedestrian cross-walk until the alternative is ready to go, so it won't affect my walk to the parks. Furthermore, as I understand it, the pedestrian bridge over Harbor hasn't even been approved. (This was discussed in the 19-page thread about the Eastern Gateway project.)
For what it's worth, we love Tropicana overall. Their rates are great (usually under $150/night [$129/night military rate]), their staff is attentive, the rooms are clean. They are currently in the middle of updating rooms, and the updated ones look pretty nice (beachy/surf themeing). I don't like who they call for rides to the airport from the hotel (laughing at going 92mph down the freeways isn't the kind of thrill ride I prefer, and charging $10 more than a taxi didn't make me happy). However, when I asked them to call someone else instead, they did. I'm kinda weirded out by the very attentive valet guy who calls me by name and asks when I'll be heading back to my room; I never have a car when I'm there. But, it's a fair place for the price.
