What hotel do you stay at in Savannah GA? I am thinking we may stop there on our way down. Looking for a nice clean place. Thanks!!!

We've stayed at the Spring Hill Suites and the Hampton in at exit 94. Both were very nice and larger rooms. We were able to get them for under $100 a night with taxes.

Interesting info. Thanks. We have to make a vacation stop there soon. (Worked on a film there but never saw the city except for the waterfront area).

Disney Hess: $2.59 per gallon, regular.

Wow it jumped .10 since your last post. Now I am not so annoyed that I just paid 2.49 at wawa yesterday in South Jersey. I told DH when I was getting gas that it sucked I was paying the same price at home as I would in Disney where you expect to be gauged!!

We were surprised, too. We got the info via an internet search; we secured some of our earlier price info when we were there a few weeks ago.

Yeah, a 10-cent jump is quite a leap in such a short time. :confused3

In Markham, Ont, Canada, the price per liter translates to $3.71 a gallon.
Considering we produce our own gas, and provide the US MOST of their imports, the fact you all pay less than we do is messed up.

:confused3

Gas here in Nassau County, LI dropped to $2.75 yesterday. It has dropped about 30 cents in the last month.

But the fundamental difference between U.S. and Canadian gas prices is that Canada has a lot of taxes, etc. built-into the price that we Americans don't have...

counting down the hours now .....

Packing the car tonight, hitting the road at 5 AM tomorrow. I'll check in from Walterboro tomorrow evening!

:woohoo: "Just can't wait to get on the road again." :woohoo:

My sister, her boyfriend, my mom and her two boys just left today. Wish our schedules would have worked out so we could be going at the same time.
They are thinking that they can drive straight through from Michigan.

She's a nurse that works the night shift that did not sleep last night, my mom for what ever reason did not sleep either, and I'm hoping her BF was the smart one and did.

So if you have to travel on I-75 South today, seak an alternate route.:goodvibes

A hour or so left of today's sunlight. Sunset arriving later. Then, night-time darkness. But by the time you depart, the pre-dawn light will be seen in the east...and you will be on your way!

Have a safe drive! :thumbsup2

Awaiting your report: traffic, construction sites, gas prices, etc.

We're here at the Microtel! Had a great day. 665 miles so far.

Left a little late, but no big deal. Got to DC around 8:30, Northern VA by 9. Had a few stop and go spots, usually got up to 30mph. Overall, probably took an extra 30 minutes, but I think we were at the front end of the backups so it was no big deal for us. No worse than the Schuylkill Expressway at rush hour!

Stopped for a picnic lunch at NC visitor center. Really busy today. Managed to find a table under cover. It was nice to have a break and some decent food, not fast food.

Gas prices have been okay - mostly around $2.65. Loves and Pilot around $2.57, major names up to $2.69.

No construction delays so far - heard about one on the Capital Beltway but avoided it. Was only because the overnight work hadn't been cleared up.

Hit a major thundershower in SC, slowed us down for another half hour. Lots of folks pulled off to the side, speeds down to 30-40. Passed the time listening to Phils on XM while kids watched movies. They've been VERY well-behaved this trip.

Got to the Microtel around 6:15. Went to dinner at Duke's Barbecue :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Serve yourself buffet, authentic local food/barbecue. Styro plates, plastic utensils, homemade sweet tea, paper towels and loaf of Sunbeam bread on the table. Pork, chicken, ribs, fried okra, mac & cheese, banana pudding!!!! $7.95 for adults, $5.95 kids. Best $30 we ever spent on the road. :)

Easy day tomorrow, expect to hit OKW by 3, quick trip to Winn-Dixie for food and beer, then EMH at MK for our first of daily viewings of the Main Street Electrical Parade!

Can't think of anything better :cloud9: Great expectations for the rest of the trip since we've done so well so far.

Talk to y'all soon!

What town did you stay in overnight in SC? We assume it was somewhere in SC.

Thanks for the update.
Some good info in your report.

Have fun!

Just wanted to give a quick report for the 2000 mile folks.

Our trip was 1091 miles one way. We stopped on I-95 outside of Savannah, GA at the SpringHill Suites.

We have 2 girls age 6 and 9. We stopped for a quick breakfast at the Waffle House via the GPS. It was a really quick breakfast because there was no Waffle House, just an empty lot, LOL. Ended up with Pop Tarts in the car.

We stopped for lunch which was maybe a half hour at Arby's and dinner at a restaurant for maybe an hour. We stopped at every welcome center for bathroom breaks in each state (5 centers on the way to Savannah.) We probably stopped at 4 other rest areas as we traveled.

754 miles and 12 hours and 46 minutes according to googlemaps. We left at 4 am sharp and checked in at 6:52 pm. So the trip was just about 14 hours with all stops. Got into only 1 traffic tie-up which was a slow car running with it's blinkers on and traffic trying to merge around them on a 2 lane (Rt. 26 near Columbia.)

We left our house and it was 59 degrees out. I stopped at Columbia, NC for gas and was nearly knocked off my feet getting out of the vehicle. It was 103 according to our thermometer on the center mirror display.

Savannah to Pop Century was about 4.5 hours. We left around 7:30, stopped for a quick early lunch around 10:30 and got to Pop around noon.

We averaged about 20-21 mpg in our Mazda Tribute, which I expected better. 4 stops for gas on the way down and 4 stops on the way home of about $25 each time (filling about 10 gallons each time, which is around 3/4 tank for us.) So, the cost of fuel was about $200 for us.

On the way home, we pulled out at 3:15 am. We arrived home at 10:40 with the welcome centers, rest areas, and only lunch stop (dinner was grabbing something and eating in the car on the road.) We drove straight through, which wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be. The worst was when we finally reached PA and still had 2 hours to go. So, total for the straight through was

Again, only a single traffic tie-up on Rt 77 in Virginia. I don't know what it was because we detoured around it for 10 miles. It gave us a nice scenic route through VA though. I think I want to move to Virginia now.

If I had to do it over again, I would drive the 18 hours straight through leaving home at 3 am. It wasn't all that bad driving for that long on the way home. Originally I had the thoughts of arriving at noon, which we did, and running straight to Magic Kingdom for the magical moment of my daughters seeing the castle, which we did. We went to Magic Kingdom and it was so outrageously hot that we immediately went back to the resort. I would recommend NOT going to a park upon arrival and just stay at the resort. Not that the pools are very relaxing for us Pennsylvanians because I think I got burnt more from the pool water temperature than the sun, hehe. The pool water is HOT folks! When you are use to 65-70 degree water, jumping into a pool in Florida feels like you just removed the top off your hot water tank and jumped in.

Just wanted to give a quick report for the 2000 mile folks.

Thanks for posting! We leave in July from outside of Phila. We are planning on driving without an overnight on the way down (leaving around 4 pm) and stopping somewhere on the way home.

It is nice to know that the projected time wasn't far off even with multiple stops. :goodvibes
