The ferry is a way to break up the northeast I95 part of the drive, Its something differant I think my dd and dw might enjoy.

Unless its just me in the car, I advoid the staight shot down I-95 to dc

It is a nice scenic drive down that way, I'm just thinking about how much time it'll eat up, the risk of inclement weather reducing the number of ferries, etc. You may want to see if you can determine in advance before you head down to Cape May that things are operating normally, I'm sure there's a hotline to call.

We travel from Ontario, Canada, with 4 kids. We usually make a couple of overnight stops, but that's a personal choice. Once the kids are older then we will drive overnight.

A future overnight drive from Ontario? :worship:
You may have to start a thread titled "For 3,000 + Mile Round Trip Drivers Only!"
All the best.

How long did it take you? Mapquest says it should take us 14 hours from the house to the mouse. However, I have heard from others driving that it takes 12 hours, some say 16-18 hours. What is more feasible? We are taking our 1st drive in July with stopping at Eglin AFB as an overnight stop. Any suggestions, advice?

A few years ago my family and I would leave our house around 4:00 PM and drive all the way from Toronto - Dalton, Georgia in one day, so we have experience driving all night. While it cuts down a lot of driving we decided not to do that anymore because we find leaving our house at 2:00 AM or 3:00 AM is a lot better for us.

Its only 1400miles(one way) from our house to WDW. That's NOT the number of hours, which varies depending on the kids. So that's 2800 round trip.

:lmao:wow, got me lost!!:lmao: we go i78-i81-i66-rt17-i95-i4. we use to go i78-i81-i77-i26-i95-i4. i havent done the i77 for about 10 years now but back then there wasnt much to look at or service areas once you get into the mountains.16 1/2 hours from okw to driveway.

This is how we go also. It doesn't seem to matter what time you hit DC there was always traffic. DH's face starts popping vessels so we don't mess around anymore.

:lmao: and we dont use the bypass's anymore. when we get to richmond, i ask, are we going around, dw says, stay on 95,go for it! we only used the bypass around jacksonville one time. that takes you so far out of the way. we dont hit any of these areas around the rush hours. the only place (knock on wood) we hit traffic is trying to get out of the lehigh valley!!! 1180 miles one way and its the 30 miles around your house thats a killer!!:rotfl2:

We're planning on first road trip to Disney..we usually fly. Our current plan (we keep waffling) is to leave on August 8th (early Saturday morning) from southeast Michigan, and drive until just south of Atlanta. It looks like it's about a 12-hour drive to Atlanta for us.

I need recommendations on where to stay the night..we need a suite (I have 4 children) and prefer free breakfast. Our alternative thoughts were to leave in the evening and drive through the night to Disney to make it easier on the kids..but I think that would be awful tough on the adults!

How about thoughts on the trip home? We leave on a Friday, and were thinking of driving to somewhere in Tennessee the first day before stopping.

Since I've never done this, am I way off base? :confused3 Most of the tips on this thread seem to be from Northeast drivers, and the little bit I can find on 75 drivers I can't find now that I'm looking!

Every summer my family and I drive on I-75 so maybe I can be of some help. On our 1st day of driving we go all way to Cleveland, Tennessee although if you want to stop south of Atlanta I would recommend staying somewhere of the Macon bypass which is on I-475 and it connects back to I-75.

On your drive home I would recommend staying in either Dalton, Georgia or if you want to drive a little more then I would recommend Cleveland, Tennessee.

Finally no matter where you stay I would highly recommend making reservations at a Hampton Inn, because their rooms are always very clean and they offer a free hot and cold continental breakfast.

How long does it take from Cleveland, TN to get to Disney?

We drive from northern Illinois, what works best for us is to leave at 1:00AM... I try to sleep from 7 until 12:30, DW will keep our young kids up as late as possible so they are exhausted and sleep as much as possible..

For me, its awesome.. Can make it into Tennessee by 7:00A and to Atlanta for lunch and the kids have been awake for only 3-4 hours of the trip, not enough time to get crabby.. If we push it, can be into Ocala for dinner and have the kids into bed fairly early with a very short drive the next day to make it to rope drop..

Well on my families 2nd day of driving we don't actually go to WDW because we would get there sometime in the evening and we don't think it's worth it to pay their rates if it means getting in during the evening. So because of that we drive to Valdosta, Georgia and spend the night there, which means we would arrive to WDW sometime the next day in the early afternoon. However if I had to guess I would say it takes about 10 - 12 hours from Cleveland, Tennessee - WDW.

hmm... that might work for us. DH typically gets up at 4 am, so he could easily go to sleep a bit earlier. I bet he'd want to continue on to Disney, though, instead of stopping somewhere.

I guess the reason we don't is two part..

1. We stay DVC, only have so many points and by time we would get to WDW it would seem like wasted points, just prefer to stay offsite..

2. So instead of paying for an offsite hotel near WDW, we stay in Ocala because of ease of access..

We have made it to Orlando, but we have also been delayed by traffic at some point during the day and stopped at Valdosta and Lake City, so we are always flexible in our plan..

DH loved the idea of getting up early. He wants to get up at 3, be out the door at 3:30. He wants to drive straight through (as expected:hug:) and arrive (if all goes well) about 1 am (that's 3 1/2 hours of breaks...I don't even know if that's realistic!). We're staying offsite this trip and it's not much more to add that night. His line of thinking is that he can do the bulk of the driving, and then I can take over after we pass through Atlanta.

I will approach this with the thought that we can always stop for the night somewhere if needed. DH might be able to make it, but I'm unsure about the kids!

On the way back I'm insisting we have reservations to stay the night somewhere, though. I expect we'll be pretty tired by that point (two weeks-our longest trip yet!)

We recently returned from our first WDW adventure. Lifelong DL visitors and AP holders.

DH hates to fly so he drove to Orlando from Cottonwood, AZ and I flew from PHX to MCO. His trip to CSR was right at 2,300 miles ONE WAY. It took him four days. No kids at home, so he was alone for the trip. :sad1: But I had several books on CD ready for him.

We drove together to North Carolina after WDW (to visit family) and I flew home from Raleigh. It was another long drive home for DH--2,200 miles. Add that to the 650 miles up to NC and local driving, and we get the 5,300 mile round trip vacation. Good thing his F-150 is pretty new and very comfortable.

Ouch, that's a lot of driving. :)

We obviously concur with mjones73's "that's a lot of driving" comment. But where did he stay on the four nights? The same hotel/motel chain (lots of participating bonus points!)?

However, we hope that you all had a thoroughly enjoyable time at WDW! :thumbsup2
