How is supply? I keep seeing the horror stories around Atlanta and they say it's NC, SC and FL as well. Thanks for the NC information.

I also am concerned about being able to get gas. I guess we just have to make sure to look whenever we make a pit stop and get it even if we are not low.

The gas shortages continue in the Southeast from Tennessee to Florida, according to a national TV news report. Supplies will supposedly be forthcoming, but has this affected any of you who drive to WDW?

this is why we changed our ressie to stay at the cabins instead of taking our camper down to Fort Wilderness..well partly.. I had an email for free dining luckily we were able to get a cabin, since my girls are die hard Fort Wilderness fans. If we had not gotten the cabin our 2nd choice was Port Orleans Riverside.. they had no openings for the Poly or the Contemporary when I called the day after the email.. We are still driving down,dh is bringing along 2 extra gas cans just incase there's shortages.. This way he can fill up them if needed.

we will miss the camper but I imagine everyone will be spoiled by the cabin

Actually, this thread never needed reviving (check the active past posts) only repositioning (my request to the DISboards moderators this morning).
Nevertheless, here we are marathon drivers...at a new location.

Perhaps an I-81 route instead of I-95 considering the upcoming weather?

From Southern NJ my goal is to get past Washington DC before the traffic builds. I know I could never stay awake overnight, so leaving around 2:30 AM gets me past DC by 5:30 AM, and I get to North Carolina by 8 AM. If staying up all night was a viable alternative I would strongly consider that method too.

How about the return trip? i know we don't get that 2:30 AM start and so are in a totally different ball game coming home. How do your return trips differ from the trips down?

Hi all! We've driven down twice from NH to Disney, we plan on doing it again next August, so just wanted to say Hi and I'll be reading this thread

That's what we did in 2007. This year, we left Lake Buena Vista at 8:45am and we stopped in Ashland, VA, just north of Richmond. We arrived at about 8:15pm. And the next day was a shorter drive home (MA), which took about about 8 hours.

We left Northern NH at 1am, and got to the upper part of North Carolina in Roanoke Rapids, we stayed at the Best Western, Roanoke Rapids. Great hotel! I would definately stay there again. There is a Denny's located right beside it!

We arrived there about 6:30pm. Room rate was around $65 I believe, but next time, we'll book it in advance (we had a room booked in Emporia, VA, the Econolodge, don't stay here, it was gross). So, not too much further to go to get a really nice place.

We left the next morning about 7am and arrived around 5:30pm-6pm in Ormond Beach (Orlando is only about 1 hour-1 hour 15 minutes away).

We are leaving next week for our drive from Cleveland. We are doing it a bit different this time. We are leaving in the afternoon and driving for about 6 hours then spending the night. The next day we will drive to the other side of Jacksonville and the following morning the rest of the way to WDW. It is tough with a little one and trying to decide how far we can go with her in 1 day. On the way home we are staying at Disney's HH resort for 2 nights.

We've driven every year since 2002 and with one exception (due to weather) have left early in the morning, from as early as 4:45 a.m.

Weekend drives are best since the "rush-hour" traffic factor is reduced.

With sandwiches and beverages on board (and a full tank of gas to start), we have managed to cross the Florida border from as early as 5:05 p.m. (12/07) to 10:09 p.m. (5/06). And we did our first straight-through drive this past May. However, most of the time we have stayed at a Holiday Inn in southern Georgia or northern Florida at the end of our first day of driving. This method takes us to WDW by the late morning or early afternoon on the second day.

We make two gas stops along the way to WDW and several bathroom breaks.

And it's essentially an I-95 ride all the way until I-4 in FL.

We reside in So Jersey, on the east coast, and leave around 2:30 AM. This allows us to get by the DC area before the traffic starts. As an example of timing, this past August when we went we were past DC (entering VA) by 5:30 AM, NC by 7:45 am, SC by 10:25 AM, GA by 2 PM, FL by 3:45 PM, and Orlando at 6:25 PM. We had stops of approximately 2 hours in total.

For the return trip we leave Orlando/WDW around 8-9 AM and stop over in Emporia VA. Then the next day we leave in the AM and get home in the afternoon. Usually late afternoon after stops.

Hi.

We're going in January. The plan is to leave around 5:00 AM on Sunday. We live northeast of Philly, so we may go through Wilmington on 202 to 95, or we'll backtrack to the Blue Route and hit 95 from there.

We plan to sleep overnight at the SC/GA Border, probably around Walterboro, then arrive at WDW around 3:00 on Monday. We plan on one good meal stop, and numerous snack and leg stretching breaks on the way.

Coming home, we're going to do the same route and stop in SC. We figure our first travel day home will be a light one, allowing us to have a few hours in WDW and not have to rush. Then we'll do a long day on the second day, since who cares what time we get home
