Does anyone have experience staying at Microtel? We just booked a room on the way down in Kingsland Ga there, and on the way home... we are getting a later start then normal so will only make it to SC and booked the Microtel in Florence. Great rates.... look nice on the internet.... just hoping for some personal feedback.....

thank you...

To everyone driving to florida this weekend. Drive safely....

It runs from the Canadian border in upstate New York to Tennessee. The majority of people on here take it from Pennsylvania through Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia to I77.

Both I-81 and I-95 are, of course, federal interstate highways. But when it snows, the more level I-95 is somewhat safer...at least after the plowing. Neither route is safe right now through the mid-Atlantic blizzard.

It started about 90 minutes ago here. An inch or two down so far. Twenty inches to go!

Hello everyone, We are leaving next Friday from NYC at 6:00 a.m. hoping to get the tailend of D.C. traffic - approx 3:30 to 4 hours away.
just 2 questions. is it better to leave earlier say 4 a.m. or is 6 good.
Second question is that the Dayton 500 is going on. I was thinking of staying in Brunswick Ga. friday night and continue sat morning. Only problem is that i don't want to be stuck in racing traffic on saturday morning. Is the traffic around Daytona bad that whole weekend or just on raceday?

Any advice would be appreciated. We did make the trip down last year and ended up going straight through to disney arriving at 1230 midnight. last couple of hours on I-4 were tough. But it was worth it. Also anyone know of a motel or hotel near Downtown disney to stay at since we don't check in to SSR until sat.

Your travel plans sound great, we were going to do that on Wednesday morning but now we have to leave Tuesday afternoon due to the storm. Traffic should not be a problem at all heading south on 95 on Saturday. There may be alittle bit of a backup by I4 but it shouldn't be anything major and I don't see you sitting in traffic for more then 15 minutes.

edbo 77 and nappingbeauty...
Thanks for the information! :goodvibes
Both Rocky Mount and Wilson look good, although we're leaning towards Wilson now because the hotels seem to be located right off of 95.

Hi this is our plan as well, we plan to leave on Friday Morning from Northern NJ and drive strait to GA for the night. I would be interested in hearing how this works out for you. We don't leave until April and was wondering if it would be better to leave Thursday evening instead to get the DC traffic behind us. Please post back upon your return. Thanks and happy travels. :goodvibes

Many previous posts have always warned about DC traffic on Friday, especially during the extended a.m. and p.m. rush hours.

If possible, try that Thursday evening departure.

All the best.

Sharadoc, How is the Microtel? We are driving in June and need options in case we can't make it all the way in one shot. I am also interested in where you stop on the way home.

I hope your weather is nice; not sure about Limerick, but in West Chester, about 20 minutes from King of Prussia, we had about 1/2 to 1 of snow today.

Debby

Hi - sorry I just got back online. We're on the road now, getting back to PA tomorrow!

The Microtel was fine. We had a room that was one queen bed, a divider in the center with a fridge, sink and microwave, and a sofabed. We like having the living room area when we stop over, so we can relax on a sofa and hang out a little, so we always stay in a "suite" hotel.

The price was good for a suite - I think it was around $71 for a weekend, and $60 for a weekday AAA rate.

On the way home, we're staying in Wilson. At exit 121, there are about 6 different suite hotels. We're at the Fairfield Inn and Suites (Marriott). Very nice, but expensive. Around $125 a night but we got 2 TVs, which was important for DH to watch the Super Bowl and kids to watch Disney Channel :lmao:

We had an almost perfect drive today. We left Disney World around 9:30 and got to Wilson at 7:30. Got take-out from Cracker Barrel, watched the Super Bowl and now getting ready for bed. Traffic was so light and skies were clear the whole way.

Still getting wonderful gas mileage, hovering around 25-26 mpg on the Grand Caravan.

According to my "I-95 exit information Guide" (I know I'm a dork) it lists it as Exit 92 A/B (Hanover/Ashland). There are about a dozen hotels listed at this exit including Days Inn, Holiday Inn, Econolodge, Quality Inn & Suites, Super 8 etc. Also many places to eat including: Cracker Barrell, Burger King, KFC, Shoneys, Subway, Tacobell etc. Gas, Grocery and CVS also located at this exit.

Our favorite book for the drive is Driving I-95, so I guess we'll join you in the dork club :rotfl: Knowing what's at each exit really makes the trip go very smooth. I'd recommend it to anyone who's driving to WDW, just make sure you also get regular road maps and have a good GPS, although the latter is usually a waste of time - you know "continue on I-95 South", etc. etc. for about 900 miles :lmao:

Thanks for the info! Just based on food choices, Wilson looks good. I'd still like to hear from anyone who's spent the night in either Rocky Mount or Wilson.

Hi. A couple of posts above here, I mention we are in Wilson Exit 121 right now. Looks like a few new hotels - Country Inn and Suites, Fairfield Inn and Suites, Holiday Inn Express Suites, Comfort Suites (looks brand new). The only thing around the hotel cluster is Mcdonald's, Burger King, Bojangles (free WiFI) and Cracker Barrel. I guess everything else must be on the other side of 95.

Seems nice so far. I'll let you know if anything changes!

What do you think of heading south through NYC and the GW bridge on a Friday night around 8:30pm... and then the drive down 95 through NJ ??? Will we run into traffic heading in or out of the city? or will our timing be okay?

Making our second drive down in less than a year. We are leaving this Thursday. I am a bit nervous right now as I see they are forecasting snow again for the Northeast. Boston may get 6-12 inches and other amounts south of us.

We are going the 90 to 84 to 81 to 77 to 26 to 95 (not 95S all the way) route, and I am wondering if maybe we should stick to 95S with all this weather? Has anyone gone the other way lately? Is it safe that way?

I am a wreck, someone please calm my nerves? What do you guys suggest? I have been reading again here, and you guys are a wealth of info. Please help?

Hello everyone. I am considering driving, I like to drive because I see the journey as part of the vacation. Has anyone done the drive from Chicago? I am completely new at this so any trip advise would be helpful. Thanks for the help!

We're leaving tomorrow:cool1: Leaving NYC around 11 and we're driving to Emporia,VA. It looks like we're going to hit alittle snow:headache: and maybe rush hour in DC and Baltimore:headache: but hopefully all will go well:goodvibes

Best of luck, look out for speed traps near Emporia, they can be terrible, the snow in fredericksburg is supposed to start around 2pm, GOOD LUCK and if you get need any weight in your trunk for traction swing by exit 126 on 95 and I will hop in:rolleyes1
