It's time for us to check out of the HI DTD and drive over to the GF.

[Sorry about Tweevil's first phase of the drive. Yikes!] :scared1:

All the best. :thumbsup2

I am getting ready to take off from Santee and thought I would update... Yesterday I95 from MD to the top of SC was horrible. Worst delay I have ever experienced. I even tried Rt 1 as an alternative and that was bad. I saw a little construction, 2 or 3 accidents in the middle median but nothing significant that would have (in my mind) caused this slow (20-25 mph) driving. It put us easily 3 hours behind schedule. AND there was a full wallet of knucklehead drivers who did the "let's get one car up and pry ourselves in" tactic. I am going to have to go back to leaving at the crack of darkness the night before I guess.... Now, if I can get my party out of their beds (you would have thought they drove...) I can get onto my last 5 of driving for the day. I love driving (really I do!) but if you had asked me that at 1p yesterday I would have told you I was going to fly next time. lol Let's hope today is better and I know there is a cocktail awaiting me in Disney for sure! :dance3:
Ahhh yes, Saturday in the summer time on i95 south. I'm guessing just to many cars in one place at the same time.

I just read the gf was closed this morning? Lol. Have a nice check in day. Keep us posted!!

hi dd!!!! I have a question for you, I see you post from your I pad a lot. I got an I pad a few weeks ago and in the evening hours have a hard time posting on the dis with the I pad. it just keeps trying to load and it "times out" most of the time. during the day or in the morning it works fine. my lap top works fine in the evening. im guessing its the ap? :confused3 I was just wondering if you had any problems?

I do have issues!! :( I think it's the app too.

Sent from my iPad using DISBoards

We start our first ever drive to Disney from Central NJ (after flying for many visits!) tomorrow night. Hopefully it won't be too bad! I'm a little nervous about such a long drive!

Fear not! You will be fine; just expect construction delays south of the Baltimore tunnel and several spots in northern VA (three lanes to one fun).

And fill up that tank in MD.

All the best. :thumbsup2

How was the mine train? I have five fast passes for it in a few weeks. I'm hoping Tammy does ok on it so she can ride with me. I watched it on you tube but I'm sure it don't do much for it. I guy I work with just came back and said it is a lot better at night. I spent a lot of nights watching them weld that thing after park hours waiting to pick briana up from work. From where I use to park you got a good view of it.

We know your pain. Left RI at 2am Saturday morning. Hit virginia and it was a dead standstill. Looked it up on the phone and there was a double tractor trailer that had crashed and taken up the entire highway, stopping traffic for 3 hours. We ended up being 2 hours behind our usual schedule. Made it to Waterboro, SC by 9ish, headed out Sunday by 7:30 and sipping cocktails at the gurgling suitcase by 12:30. Our studio was ready but not the 2 bedroom.

Headed to Mass last night at Corpus Cristi in Celebration, very nice parish for any Catholics out there looking for a place to go to church here.

Today, pool!!!!

Have a great day, Cheryl

The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was exciting and fun. It's a quick, angular and smooth ride, something similar to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad but less bumpy. And it's mid-ride, slow speed exploration sequence through the mine is vivid and music-filled, Alas, though, it would be a bit too much for my wife.

I had a FP+ scheduled for 8:15 p.m. As a single rider, I was aboard and under way at 8:17 p.m.

All the best. :thumbsup2

since tammy lost her vision in one eye some rides make her sick to her stomach. she cant do space mtn. but she can go on big thunder. its the going in circles x speed that gets her. I tried closing one eye and see what she sees on some rides and it feels like your spinning. now the crazy part............ for 25 years she couldn't go on the tea cups. couldn't even look at it. briana and I would ride it by ourselves all the time. of course we spin the cup till it cant spin any faster. now........ tammy can go on as long as you don't spin the cup.
forget rnr, tower and mission. she will go on test track if she its just her and I. if briana is along, she will take my wallet and go shopping instead. :lmao:

Hi all! We will be driving from the St louis area and staying at the GF sep 20 to 28. I have checked on travel times between GF and the parks but want your opinion...which would you drive to if staying at GF. We will be going to DTD, DHS, AK, Epcot and MK. I assume mono is best for epcot and MK but please correct me if not.

FWIW we will have 3 Littles in tow...ages 4, 3 and 1. Taking a double maclaren stroller with us.

Thank you!

monorail would be the best for the mk and epcot. it nay be a pain but I would bus it to dtd. with all the construction you may not find a parking spot. driving to dhs and ak would most likely be easier. when dd was little, we drove to all the parks. it was just easier with the stroller etc...., now I bus it all over. I don't want my car doors dinged up in the parking lots. :lmao:

Thanks! We have plenty of door dings on our 07 expedition and are most likely the culprit of your door dings! Ha, JK. ;)

I had similar thoughts with driving to AK and DHS. DH likes to be in control and I hate riding on a bus. Kids will enjoy the monorail.

Looks like BC is at GF now?

I'm sure your not. Lol you would have extensive key damage to the side of your car if it was me. Lol

Yes, it's Zaxby's, thanks! Anyone ever try it? If it's just another fast food chain like KFC, I'll pass.
we love Zaxby's! We stop there when traveling in the south. Definitely not KfC. I think it is considered "fast casual". Their chicken strips are great and fries are seasoned nicely. I do not care for their Zaxby's sauce. It looks like thousand island dressing. I prefer something like chick fil a sauce. Their honey mustard is good.

Okay I have lurked on this thread for quite awhile. We are going to drive from Michigan to WDW for the first time next August. You all seem so experienced that I was hoping you could give me some tips.... We have four kids and will be traveling in our minivan. Sent from my Nexus 7 using DISBoards
we will be going from the St. Louis area next month in our expedition with DS4, DS3, and DD1. For the boys I had the idea today to pack brown bag lunches in the morning and give to them in the late morning to eat from as they wish. That way I am not having to turn around every 10 minutes and give them something. We travel a lot and usually I make a bunch of pbj's before we leave and have a big bag of snacks near me that I can disburse. But we have now moved our boys to the 3rd row (which we all love...they can see much more scenery back there), and it makes it tougher for me to reach them. So we will try the brown bag idea for our WDW trip. That way they also have a trash bag for the ride. We also like to stop and eat/play at rest stops.

For entertainment I am going to surprise them with new small disney backpacks filled with Disney things mostly from the dollar store and target one spot. I believe they will be thrilled with this. We of course will have disney movies. This past road trip (a short 750 miles RT) I checked out Disney soundtracks from the library. They loved singing along to their favorites from Frozen, Planes, Cars, Wreck it Ralph. dH and I enjoyed it also.

Hope that helps some! That may not have been what you were asking for though. ;)
