We drove home on Christmas day one year. The temperature in Orlando was 32 degrees when I loaded the car at 6am. We hit a terrible ice storm while on I-95 in North Carolina. Our last hour until the hotel turned into 5 hours on back roads as I-95 was impassable. Yuck.

One week from today we leave our driveway. I cannot wait!! I'm so excited!! But man, I hope the rest of the work week doesn't go like today...so...sloooooow!;)

Turkey Hill is a great company. I spotted their cow one day (didn't know they had one, looked out the window while snuggling a grandchild and burst into laughter to see this huge cow go by on a flatbed) and then wrote to tell them about it. They sent a wonderful personal note back and about $20.00 worth of coupons. I've been a fan ever since.

Now, for my dd, the local thing she misses (she just moved to KY) is Sheetz.

Enjoy your trip!

they are building them on every street corner around here. if its not sheetz its a wawa.
briana worked at Panera bread while she was going to school before leaving for the cp. there is a Panera about three blocks from where she lives. I think she has been once. she likes going to ihop after work. we don't have ihops around home.

Dry ice and a Styrofoam cooler would probably keep them on the way down. We get stuff all the time from QVC w/ dry ice and it is still frozen when it gets here. You may need a little more dry ice than QVC puts in the package for popsicles to keep them solid. Just a suggestion.

Lol. Thanks but she is all ready on a mission to see how many mm ice cream bars and dole whips she can eat between may 20th and January 6th. Lol

You should see her bank statement. Her pay is direct deposit and she don't carry cash with her so she uses her debit card for everything. Lol

She figures I'm in disney for eight months ....... I'm eating ice cream!!!!!

wow, this thread is amazing! let me intro myself- my fam of 4 plus my parents and brother travel to disney every year/year and a half since my parents are DVC. We have always flown in the past. For fun i google mapped the route and saw that it was so much shorter than we ever expected! (we're in Pittsburgh) So now DH and I are kicking around maybe trying the drive for our trip in May 2014. I've been reading all the posts, trying to make a list of all the suggested routes from you experts! We drive to Cape Hatteras every September and realized that making it to disney wouldnt be a heck of a lot longer. Thanks for all the tips, I'm happy to soak up all the knowledge here!

Welcome to our friendly ranks!

Cape Hatteras to WDW? You're almost "next door."

Years ago, a dear friend learned that we were staying in Colonial Williamsburg and suggested that since we were "so close" to WDW we should drive there. And we did! And we've done it more than once!

All the best. :thumbsup2

The master of mileage is at it again!

Now then...besides your 55 drives to WDW, did you ever fly there?

All the best. :thumbsup2

We're making our drive two weeks from today! It's getting so close, I can hardly stand it. :cool1:

Took the car in last week to get an oil change and everything checked out. Ordering our AAA TripTik today - the route is easy, but it's more for the kids to follow along.

I wonder if it's too soon to pull out the suitcases? :goodvibes

Nope, not too soon. I start collecting stuff about a month out...which reminds me, I'm just about a month out :hyper:

As for this thread...we are in the Balt/Wash area (@900 miles from WDW) and always drove to FL (for WDW and cruises) until Dec 2011. Since Dec 2011, we have flown and next month will be the 4th time flying to FL in that time...we also fly to WDW in Dec. While the first couple of times was nice, to check luggage and not deal with it until it shows up in your room, we are now tired of the cost and hassles of flying. We are going back to driving after this Dec trip. I like having a car on WDW property and I like being able to pack as much as I want. I like to bring a few grocery items. And my kids were actually complaining, during our last flight to FL, that they missed the drive (they consider it part of the vacation...a trip in itself).
