4) Regarding speeding on an outer-belt....My one speeding ticket was doing 67 MPH on the Cincinnati outer-belt (this was 1983, when everything was 55 MPH). That stretch is now 65 MPH. I didn't think there were any outer-belts with speed limits exceeding 65 MPH. I guess if you're far enough away from any urban area, it could be. However, I don't think there's any parts of the Cincinnati outer-belt that's 70 MPH. And there are parts of the outer belt that's over 20 miles away from Downtown Cincinnati. As I previously mentioned, it's the longest outer-belt in the U.S.

295 around Richmond has been 70 mph since 2010... they could probably raise the limit on 295 there to 75 mph with no real risk (it is a beautiful piece of roadway without much traffic) but I think 80 mph in VA is wreckless driving, so I am guessing that would be a problem.

So after that DH showed me how to use cruise control which made it much easier to stay at the right speed consistently. We made it to Savannah around 4:45 and are staying at a Holiday Inn Express on Gateway blvd for $94 and I would not recommend it. Tub drain broken, floor length mirror broken- I would have refused to stay, but the fun continues- about 20 min before we got to the hotel I realized I didn't pack bathing suits for myself. I was so distracted by packing for the road trip- so we had to go on a hunt about 10 miles into Savannah to the mall and drop more money on bathing suits for me (continue judging- tons of $$ around here to keep "throwing around"). It wasn't pretty. The kids also were so excited and wound up. Glad it is a new day. I am excited to move on and head to Orlando and glad we should have a short cruise control led ride today.

We usually have a few mishaps on the way down, either by car or train.... But.... But...when you hit Disney property, see the monorail track, the welcome arch... Giddiness takes over and when you pull into your resort, all pile out and head to check in... Let the fun commence...

That's when we say, "whew, we made it and we're here".... Best feeling in the world.!

I was surprised when it was my turn to drive last time just how easy it was to go WAY OVER the speed limit on 95 on the way to Florida. Being from PA with lots of hills and twists and turns, I found myself going 10-15 over sometimes. All that flat straight road made it very easy to creep up to the higher mph without even really thinking about. Thank goodness for cruise control - think I'll deff be using it this time as my car had a very small engine in it while this time we're taking the Ram....all that power might go to my head! ;)

Yes! Same here - and trucks make me so nervous I try to avoid them so when you pass one of those you also pick up speed. But nevertheless today is going much better and I finally learned cruise control on my overpriced minivan lol.

There again, what's the need to go over the limit...? Must have extra money to throw around... I might go over by a mile or 2 but never have to worry about speed traps... And looking down at the speedometer when I spot the police... Too late then, they got cha !!

Well, I don't know about everyone else, but I don't watch my speedometer while I'm driving. Then I'll look down and say, "Whoops!" and slow down. Or I'll hear dh say, "Speed limit is 65 here, not 85." When you are going with the flow, you really don't realize that you are going over the speed limit.

DisMom1981, I'm sure you are there by now. I'm so sorry you disappointed with HIE -- you should contact them as they really do work hard to keep their places nice. As for the ticket and the bathing suit, it's what turns a road trip into an adventure, :) Have a wonderful vacation!

Aren't those blue and white signs that say "95" the speed limit signs? Lol.

OMG that stinks you had to shop for a bathing suit. Hope you found a nice one. You should've had an easy drive today leaving from savannah!! Woohoo :)
Cruise control is the best!!! And b/c it's so consistent I find you even get there faster w/ out speeding (to much ;)
Have a great trip!

We lucked out big time by just missing the weather. The speed traps in VA, not so much. Rookie mistake. 10:00 and into NC.

Have done the ride twice this year from Mass - there's usually more radar traps in VA than all other states combined. Sorry that they got ya!

That's a shame you had to go hunting for swimsuits. There is a Wal-Mart right off 95 in that area, or you could have waited until you got to the Disney area - Wal-Mart, Target, two outlet malls, tons of places. I hope you got what you needed though!

Have a good trip.

Wal Mart only had a few left- size 4x- not my size. The outlet mall had nothing! I thought I was safe as Dress Barn was right across the street but they don't carry swim there. I got lucky in Sears at the mall. A total shame since I have 3 perfectly good suits at home that are rarely used. Nothing I can do but move on and enjoy the vacation. On the bright side, I won't need a new bathing suit for at least a decade......

Just found this site . We have been traveling to Disney and florida at least once a year for the last 15 years .We leave oct 16th for 19 days from Rome ny and typically travel about 3500 miles round trip. Its nice to see a site dedicated to the driving people

So here we go again!

Summer 2012 drove CT to WDW and it was a great ride. This time we are doing the exact same trip in April but for some reason I am a little more nervous about the ride then I was last time.

Not sure if it is the fact that I keep thinking that the last drive was a fluke in that we hit no traffic what so ever on the way down and back. And I should not get in my head that it will happen again.

Weird feeling though.

Maybe you have found good timing for your drive and will have the same experience again. I tend to leave around the same time each trip and have found the trips to be similar, aside from any weather or road mishaps that change the dynamics. The only big differences in traffic volume I have noticed is on the school holiday weeks around Christmas and Easter. Oherwise my timing works well for me and hopefully yours will for you too.

Wow, don't you hate it when you can't buy a swim suit in the summer. That stinks! We have swimwear that stays in our Disney bag that's always packed, along with our Disney Ts, hats and other stuff we only wear at Disney!

I drove down and back this past April and I have to say the trip went amazingly well. We did the inland route. You should be ok in April.

how much is the high test???

It was $3.81 yesterday.

[Our quest for you know who was, alas, unsuccessful. We will renew our efforts to locate the remarkable CM in question in October.]

All the best. :thumbsup2
