KUTZTOWN, KUTZTOWN, CHEESE AINT NICE!!!!! :lmao:

you need to do it in a good pa dutch ascent!!

( don't ask, spent some of my drunkin, "hippie years" at Kutztown u. :lmao:)

guess I should be pulling out my minivan packing list that I don't have...lol. Have our clothes packed but I need to get my butt in gear to do the rest. I do have all the electronics/cameras charging today ;)
Just out of curiosity does anyone have a "driving in car" specific checklist? we drive every year so i tend to just remember everything but sometimes it is chaotic here when we're loading up the car.

I just leave the stuff in the car anymore. :lmao: heck im already packed and still have 113 days to go. I want to get another owners locker and then we just leave the rest of our stuff there. we love our locker, cuts down on all the lugging back and forth. I wish I would of thought of it. :lmao:

have a good trip if I don't talk to before you leave and remember to keep us posted. let me know how the construction is on i26. :thumbsup2

Im turning to my friends on the driving thread for some help.
today my dd informs me that her close friend from the Disney college program, who by the way vowed never to return to work for the mouse, is kinda missing it. her friend would like to go back and work full time in the park and was wondering if dd had any interest in going back.

I know..... having to go to work in the mk every day sound like its the greatest. which dd had fun and loved every second of her program, but like any other job, the place becomes your work place.you deal with the same problems and people and more people you do with like any other job.(did I mention people :lmao:) it kinda takes the magic out of the place when its your job. she got to see and do a lot and could tell you stories for hours and she also misses a lot of her coworkers and activities. she really loved the place and 90 percent of the people. she still has pictures of kids that wanted to take her picture with them. the program was a dream come true for her and us and the best part, she really grew up and learned to talk to people and handle herself in way I thought she never would or could.

dd hasn't really said what she was thinking. if it was a month ago, I would of said knock yourself out............ BUT.........

dd finally got a good job, a job she could make a really good living for her self and exceed in. she makes three times the amount she would working for the mouse. she is only 21...... on one hand I want to say go, have a blast. go chase what ever it is you want to chase and have fun.
on the other hand I want to kick her in the rear end!!!!! are you crazy????? jobs like that don't just fall out of the sky!!!!!

in the end, she is an adult and she can do what she wants but she will be asking for our opinion im sure. I just don't know what to tell the kid. :confused3

That's a tough decision. What is she doing now? Is she done with school?

another good point. she is close to getting her business degree. she planned on working full time and taking classes at night to get that done at a local college. which she can do. she is not a partier and she said she has worked to hard to stop now. it will take longer but she or dw and I don't see the rush. we pay as she goes and she has no debt. she is a good kid. she don't cause us any problems and has her head screwed on.
going to florida I think will push things off even further.

I reminded her that she works in a nice office with heat and a/c. in her own cube and works Monday through Friday.
just to remind her of the late night (working till 4am) slopping around in the rain, 95 degree heat and humidity grabbing buses to the cm parking lot.:lmao:

Well I think you know what you're going to say now. ;)
She does sound like a good kid. I'm sure she'll make the right choice. Tell her she can always have it as her retirement job. That's what I'm gonna do. Hopefully sooner rathe r than later. We're planning on making the move in about 5 yrs.

Is her present position something she likes?

If no, then I'd pack up tomorrow and head south before she gets too used to her job.

If yes, then I'd stick with it. Save Disney for frequent vacations. Hoping she gets two weeks for vacation right now.

An alternative....stick with her present job for a few years, then as soon as she graduates, try to find a similar job in Orlando. That way, she'll still be close enough to the Mouse. Yet she won't have it 24/7. Everyone needs a break.

My summer job was also in a theme park; Kings Island near Cincinnati. It's a job, and the magic wore off for me quickly. When I look at these kids going through Disney's College Program, doing the same job I did at Kings Island, I wonder how do they enjoy it? I love WDW, but I wouldn't want a job there. That would take away too much of the magic.

Words of wisdom from LadyBeBop.

As time goes on, your daughter will be able to differentiate between a job and a career. The former is something she has to do; the other is what she wants to do. If phrases like "Ugh, it's Monday morning," "hump day" and "TGIF" are part of her Monday-through-Friday vocabulary, she's in a job. And no one benefits: the employee, the boss or the customer. Hopefully, she will select a career...and yet, in this ever-changing economic world we live in, the structure of the 21st century economy is constantly changing. Multiple careers are a possibility. What looks career-like and appealing now may not be in another decade. Nevertheless, she has two big factors on her side: youth and caring parents.

Remember Davy Crockett's motto: "Be sure your'e right, then go ahead."

All the best. :thumbsup2

thanks everyone!!!!! she loves her job!!!! this is what she wanted. she enjoys going to work and like I said, she does well for herself.
when I ask her about the program, I always got I loved doing it, I loved working for the mouse but im glad to be getting back to a normal life.

I said it before, CMS are a special group of people. most of them do it for there love of wdw, it sure not for the money. I have been going there just about my entire life and had no idea the crap those people take. dd was there for eight months and could write a book. all by guest, she was called every name you can think of ( I do mean every name. I work with plumbers and don't hear what she did) had money thrown at her, was chased and threatened. all over ice cream and pop corn. she took it! all with a smile. I, would be in jail. :)

after all that, she would go back. she called her new job her big girl job. :lmao:

I let you know how things turn out. im pretty sure she will continue here at home. if nothing else, she has it way to easy here. :lmao: I think she also recalls all the soggy nights and long hard hours.

I also want to tell you a little something about how the program kids are taken care of. ( at least dd was) a lot of people like to dump on the company but let me tell you what happened to her.

one late night (2am) last june, she was stocking a cart after the park had closed. ( which a closed mk park is something to see)
she pulled a muscle in her back. her boss said go home and see how it feels in the morning. well, she called home crying at 4am. I told her to suck it up and rub some dirt on it... big baby!! :lmao: (that's what she tells me when my back goes out) in the morning she went to the company doctor ( near test track) the nurse said you need to see a doctor. a wdw car picked her up, drove her to a off site dr. she was given three scripts and sent back in the wdw car. they filled her scripts there. the car drove her back home. after a week, the car picked her up and took her back to the doctor. off another week. she was on lite duty for a week while going through therapy. therapy was off site and she was driven by a wdw car each time. (her personal driver was from Lancaster.):lmao: her light duty job, she was in the tunnel filling the squirt, fan bottles.:lmao:
I have to add, the word utilidors is for the tourist. lol cms call it, one or the tunnel.
any appointment she had, wdw sent a car to her apartment and drove her there and back after she was done.
I told her there is not one other place in the world that I know of that would treat one of there part time, min.wage employees like that.

after she came home, dw wrote a letter to the program thanking them for all they done for her. dd spent nothing through the entire thing. not a cent on transportation nothing. they treated the kid like a queen. after it was over, she was going to transfer and the boss wouldnt let her leave. they said if you stay you wont have to stock. she stayed and they stuck to there word.

so, theres a little story that you don't read on the internet about the wdw company. :thumbsup2

anyway......I started a thread about i95 near Richmond in the am. I guess nobody on the boards drives i95 near Richmond at 5-6am in the morning. :lmao: I knew I shouldn't have venture out of here. :lmao:

You are crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I did one of my clinical affiliations in Orlando and actually treated quite a few Disney cast members and they all had nothing but good things to say about working there, even though they were injured at work. That is quite unique. Here in RI, if you are injured at work, people just blah blah blah about the company, the job, the way they are treated. Maybe it's the orange juice down there that keeps them all happy. :goodvibes

I will be driving this summer and would like to read your thread but can't find it. Can you please give me the link? Thanks!

Here's ours:

I-95 Exit Guide
Binder with hotel on the road confirmations, restaurant ideas (non-chain) menus, directions and places we'd like to stop along the way
DVDs for the car player
Enough money for tolls
Pillows and blankets, disposable bowls and trays for food or reading supplies
Prescriptions and OTC headache, stomach and car sick medicine
GPS,
even though we use Google Maps for traffic and info, we like the display on the GPS that tells us what time we'll arrive at our destination, our speed limit, etc.
AAA card, jumper cables, emergency road kit
Multi port power thingies for front and back power port. At least 3 plus a USB for the front, plus another three for the back. We also have one that is an electric cord and USB that plugs in the car port. So we can charge or use almost any electronic device.
A portable WiFi hot spot. We got ours from Walmart for Virgin Mobile. We pay $50 for a month and can connect up to 5 devices. So we can all be on our phones, tablets, whatever without using a data plan on each thing (plus the tablets don't have data so this makes them usable on the road)

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know
Thanks! I had never thought of a wi-fi hotspot ;)

Nothing to read. I asked if anyone knows what traffic is like with the construction on i95 north of Richmond around 5-6am.
Nobody replied!!!! Just like at home. Lol
Not even a wise crack. Not even called a newbie. Nothing. Lol
