Construction southbound on I-95 north of Richmond looked brutal at night; and a single lane heading north outside the Baltimore Tunnel slowed us down a bit, although it was late in the evening.

The rest stops just over the state borders seem safer than the others; however, the best one in VA is about about 45 minutes over the border.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Is the Richmond construction north of 295 or can we skirt around by using 295?
Thanks!

Yes, it was north of Richmond but we're not sure whether it reached the I-95/I-295 intersection. There is an I-95 website that identifies construction projects and the like. It might be well worth a look before you depart.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Customized and ordered our magic bands! DDs' friend had to order her own but she is now linked to my MDE account so I can make all our fp+ reservations. I think I have to wait until 30 days out because we have APs but are staying off-site. I also booked the Supercalifragilistic breakfast for DD14's birthday.

I can't wait!!

Love the detail! I'm the same with time travel and state crossings!
We will be leaving for our 2nd driving trip to Disney within the next few weeks. Last year it took us 17 hrs. straight through from SE Pa.
How was Route 95? Construction, delays.....anything to be concerned about?
Also, any places (towns or exits) you would NOT stop at in case we need a "rest" stop, especially in the middle of the night?
I would not stop at the Baltimore Welcome Center (last rest area in MD heading south). Stopped there once and wouldn't do it again.
The 95 construction is south of the 495 beltway, extending the HOV lane. Check the website vamegaprojects.com for construction updates, lane closures, etc.
FWIW, we drove down on a Friday in Aug. Due to an accident in MD, we were stopped in traffic for 2hrs. :furious: But once it cleared, we hit the fort mchenry tunnel in Baltimore around 8am, and 495/95 in N VA around 9-9:30 and did not hit any traffic on 95. We stopped for breakfast at Cracker Barrel in Fredericksberg and did not have any traffic until rain slowed us down in NC.

We're doing it again this November. Will be 7th round trip from NE Jersey since 2008. We seem to add animals every year though this year will be the same as last. 4 adults, 4 dogs and a cat!

Well we are on the road! Left MA at 4:15.
We are in NJ and DH is now saying we may try to drive straight through. I'm a little nervous, but I'm sure we'll be fine. DH loves the 5 hr energy.
Say a prayer. LOL
Gas on NJ tnpk 3.41 cheaper than home :)

Let the Massachusetts to Florida parade begin! Or at least add another car to the train!

We are set to leave out of MA within the next hour. Driver still sleeping for a lil bit longer! We hope to make it to Jacksonville area. Just going to wing it and see how traffic and the rain is today.

Hope everyone has safe travels! :drive:

Well we made it!! First drive straight through. Phew!! We are eating at Cracker Barrel in NC. Hit a bit of construction traffic last night around 11:30 in MD :(

At the time we are reading this, you are probably in Maryland by now. And hopefully the traffic is cooperating.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Was the traffic due to the single lane entering the harbor tunnel? That's what we experienced during our drive home last Sunday night at about the same time.

Ah, Cracker Barrel! We always make a quick stop on our way home. It's usually an evening stop but we always have the Country Morning breakfast.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Wasn't at the harbor tunnel, but was a single lane. It was an overpass construction.
That put us back about 40 min. About a 5 mile backup.

Thanks for the info.

For most of our return drives, we have always experienced some kind of traffic problem, primarily because we are driving during daylight hours (heavier traffic, daytime construction projects, etc.); however, our overnight-early morning drives (9:30 p.m. to dawn) are never problematic. Of course, we avoid the greater DC area at rush hour, at that is important.

We'll see what happens in August (our first scheduled August drive).

All the best. :thumbsup2

So our drive in August is changing slightly. We just accepted an offer on our house and will be moving in with my inlaws for the summer while our new house gets built. Going to Jersey to Vero Beach to Disney World. It's going to add 45 minutes to the trip, but not much of the route is changing.

Just an FYI for those traveling 95 the weekend of April 25th, 26th. The NASCAR Race is held in Richmond so expect a traffic mess!

One wonders how it compares to the biker-fest in October on I-95 near Daytona.

All the best. :thumbsup2

First off, :worship: to those who drive straight thru.

Second, :worship: to those who drive overnight.

Third,:worship::worship::worship: to those who drive during the day time and suffer traffic.

This has to be one of the worst drives I have taken anywhere.
I95 rout to and from.

4/12 Long story short it took us 15 hours to get from Brooklyn NY to Lumberton NC. Traffic, traffic, traffic starting in NJ didn’t clear til Richmond. “Construction” was the claim.

Lumberton, NC to BLT, was another 8 hrs, some traffic here and there.

4/19 Return trip, BLT to Smithfield NC took about 12 hours, multiple jams and accidents. The weather didn't help as we drove through the rain.

Smithfield NC to Brooklyn was another 9 hours and we took a detour before Fredericksburg, back on I95 after Baltimore, which shaved off 1 hour, but still got jammed on the NJ Turnpike from the Woodrow rest stop to 8A as they continue to expand the NJ Turnpike.

I need another vacation. And to think we will do this again in December, during Christmas :rotfl2::rotfl2:
