Ours have never gone down .... oops I take that back ..... went down 2 cents this week to $3.77/gal. Wish I didn't live in NYS, that's for sure!

Wow and I thought the $3.40-something I paid for gas yesterday was bad, but I also got the lowest octane.

The funniest part is that news articles keep saying that gas prices will continue to decline. Meanwhile in the past several weeks there have been sizeable increases instead. At some point they say we will benefit from the increased production here in the US, but I get a little worried as oil has a worldwide market and currently economies are supposedly a little soft in Europe and even China, and thus demand should be lower and prices declining. But they are not. So what happens when worldwide economies improve?

Yep ..... $3.77 for the lowest octane. It's a conspiracy! I can hardly wait until we get to Hawaii in September ... but then the price should not seem so bad to me since we are used to high prices anyway.

I don't know what the story on gas prices is, either. Just over two weeks ago, I filled up my trusty ol' Buick for $3.03/gallon. Today, that same station is now $3.89.

That's an $0.86 increase - 28% - inside fifteen days. Good grief, people, a jump that size is normally explained by open warfare breaking out, some type of cataclysm, something astounding. The summer driving runup isn't normally 28%.

Something's going on. Local TV station talked with AAA and said they don't even understand why prices are going up like a salt-lover's blood pressure...

Looking for advice on driving to Disney. I'm in NW Arkansas and heading to the world in Sept during free dining. Last big road trip I did was DD and myself when we drove home a car my parents gave me. BC, Canada to NW Arkansas. 30 hr drive over 5 days. This time we are talking 17 hr drive leaving 3:30 pm so DD won't have to miss another day of school. We are considering driving through the night or stopping half way. Return trip home would be split over 2 days with a over night stop.

Honestly DD and I had a blast with our last road trip, so I think this could be a lot of fun. Maybe take a break at a beach if we have a chance on the drive home.

Hi all!

We just booked our trip yesterday (December 1-7 at All Star Sports) and we will be driving down from New York! We are a family of five (30, 28, 3, 2, 1) and will be traveling in our 2013 Dodge Caravan.

I am curious if anyone is familiar with this route!? It is our first time making this trip and we are looking for interesting/fun places along the way. We are allotting 2-3 days of travel time (each way) and are hoping to make the trip as fun as possible with pit stops to look forward to!

As of right now, the only pit stop we have is in Charlotte, NC on the way back to visit friends for two nights. Any and all ideas appreciated!

DH will be the other driver. DD doesn't even have her learners permit yet.

T minus 21 days for DW, DD12, DD10, DS8 to be making our sixth drive down from Michigan. I'm going crazy waiting. I've been done with my college classes for a few weeks and the kids aren't out until the day before we leave. We'll be stopping for the night in Georgia for the first time (we did it on the way home last year after having major problems on the drive due to going through a tropical storm.)

We are staying at west gate and portofino bay. We had one week left on our time share so figured we better use it before we lose it since we sold the timeshare.

That's a really tough call in terms of splitting the first day vs driving through. If I were you, I'd at least think long and hard about a straight-through to give you an extra day in WDW. I'm just a few hours west of you in central OK, and our trip is 20 hours. We split our drive into a 14-hour first day to Macon, and then a 6-hour second day into WDW. You'd just pick up I-40 from NW Ark and you'd be on your way. That's a matter of how tired you think you'd get, can you split drives if needed, those kinds of things.

The route that takes you from Birimingham south to Montgomery and then to Tallahassee is one I've considered, but I've never been comfortable enough about the non-interstate route between Montgomery to Tallahassee. The route through Atlanta is judged to be only about 12 minutes different, and I prefer Interstates, so that's where I'm going.

Birmingham works out to be about as close to a spot-on halfway point as you can get. I really like B'ham and we normally stay in the Homewood area on our way back home. Just kinda set in some nice, rolling hills, lots of greenery, just very pleasant city.

Ah, much better to have a second driver who's seasoned. Generally, I wouldn't recommend the straight through unless you both sleep very well in the car and can do so while the other is driving.

Otherwise, take an overnight somewhere. If everyone likes to swim, get a place with a pool, and start the vacation en route! My kids really enjoy eating out, so we try to stay in different towns each trip and research different restaurants to try. Though, that might be changing as the discussion just came up how it would be fun to go to the same place as a stopover each time...Good luck with your planning!
