just returned sunday from my 18th drive down I95 and promised to post this.
I am never stopping in Virginia again.
especially the last 10 miles before North Carolina.
I unfortunately stretched my tank and stopped at exit 8 i think and found poor food choices and the gas was 3.57 per gal. Highest in the whole trip including in Disney World. Gas in NJ when I got home was 3.12
exit #4 (skipper) also a bad stop.

sorry Virginians, I am sure it is no reflection on the state, but my next trip will have stops in Carolinas.

:thumbsup2 thanks! i dont recall the exit but towards the end of ga. on i95, i paid 30 cents per gallon more than what was the norm. on i95. i should have kept going but i didnt. :sad2:

We always stop in Wytheville, VA for gas as it is the cheapest especially after driving through West Virginia which is always some outrageous price. Usually the very cheapest is in Rock Hill, SC, followed by Florence, SC. From either we can make it to Brunswick GA, also a very cheap stop. If wew go all i-95, usually around the middle of VA south of Richmond is cheap.

hi all!!! here is a pic from this past october of two, 2000 plus mile members!!!
disneymarie and dvczerfs!!! disneymarie is on the right. :thumbsup2:lmao:

Yep, it's snacks and "hold it" for us until we hit N. Carolina :rotfl: To me, VA is the last "city" style stretch of 95. From NC on it feels like a road trip! I mean, how many Cracker Barrels and Waffle Houses are there in VA anyway :confused3

Less than 24 hours to go!

And by the time you arrive on Friday, the weather will be fine; in fact, a quick look at the Lake Buena Vista weather indicates pleasant partly-cloudy skies and temperatures ranging from the upper 70s to low 80s!

All the best. :thumbsup2

Car is packed, DH, DD, and DM are fast asleep...me=insomnia, lol
6 more hours!
I hope you are right about the weather; travel I-95 weather is amazingly the same from NY to GA: 50s and rain :headache:
So excited!
Thank you all for reports on gas prices.; will post mine as soon as I can:thumbsup2

Indeed! A view of the national doppler indicates a rainy day on I-95, at least through most of VA. Charlotte, NC is clearing up in the early afternoon. By the time you see this reply the rain will be behind you and WDW will be getting closer!

All the best. :thumbsup2

Has anyone ever driven to WDW on (or near) Thanksgiving? Lots of traffic everywhere?

All the best. :thumbsup2

I've only gone as far south at NC on Thanksgiving. Easy drive, esp. in the morning...

We drove down to WDW leaving on Thanksgiving Eve 2009. I remember it being pretty smooth sailing all the way except for a DUI checkpoint on 83 below Harrisburg. At first I thought it was an accident with all the flood lights. When I pulled up the the State Cop he motioned for me to roll down the window. First button rolled down the back window. Second button unlocked the doors. Third button & finally the drivers window goes down. I explained that I was driving DHs car & knew all the other stuff, but just hadn't figured I'd need the windows. All this time his head is hanging in the window checking to see if there is a smell of alcohol. LOL

When we told him we were headed to Orlando he said we had a long drive and to be careful and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

We made it to Georgia by about 4 in the morning & pulled into a State Police monitored roadside rest stop to nap for a few hours before continuiing on to WDW.

The worst part of going over holidays is that the Welcome Center in Florida is closed & we don't get our orange juice.:sad2:

I was too excited to be heading to Disney and my mind was on the long drive ahead. I don't think too quick on my feet or on my butt when I am in the situation. Can think of lots of things to say about an hour later.:lmao:

As far as the accident on 33, hate to say this, but I heard 1 dead, on the news. Sounded really bad.:sad2:

Well, it's looking like the weather is going to favorable for the drive down on Friday morning! :thumbsup2

Thirty-six or so hours to go!

Please keep us posted on construction in GA and gas prices along the way. We're getting ready to return next month.

All the best. :thumbsup2

We drove to Disney before Thanksgiving in 2006. We left tuesday evening, from Kansas City to Clarksville, and from Clarksville to Orlando on Wednesday. Traffic was insane. We had driven the route before and ran into horrible traffic in both Chatanooga and Atlanta. I think it took 2 hours to get through Atlanta?
