im heading down the following friday. im going 78-81-77-26-95. friday afternoon, early evening on i95 is nothing but rush hour and shore traffic. you stand a good chance of sitting in traffic dc, bal, richmond and south.:thumbsup2

We are leaving the Friday night of Memorial Day Weekend after work. Probably between 8 & 10 pm. We will be driving through the night. We have never gone the route you are using. Are there any good, safe & secure rest stops along this route? We did try going down 81 one time, but I panicked and we ended up going east along a very dark, lonely highway to catch 95 and the familiar. We ended up losing about 3 hours with this detour back. With it being a holiday weekend with probably more than the usual summertime shore traffic, I am thinking this route might be our best bet. We have ressies in Melbourne, FL for Saturday night. We will be leaving on our DCL Dream Cruise on Sunday.

Any more information you have for this route would be much appreciated. TIA. Bev

We'll be taking that route in october :thumbsup2
I'd like to buy some gas station gift cards to help budget for our trip but I have no idea what "brand" of gas there is along that route as we only drove it once! Suggestions anyone?:confused3

Checking in from the best western plus in Santee SC. I was outvoted by the driver dh who pulled into the motel. We left home around 5:30 am yesterday morning and after a breakfast & lunch stop along with breaks got here around 4:45. I wanted to keep going driver DH did not. Getting done with breakfast now and headed down the road the rest of the way. It has been a breeze with traffic so far hope it stays that way

Pam

I can't believe it, but we leave tomorrow night (or early Fri morning depending on how you look at it, LOL) We will be going to bed early & getting up by 3 am to hit the road, hoping that the little ones go back to sleep for the first few hours. Planning on driving straight thru, but will stop if we need to.

Very excited!! :goodvibes Any construction updates on 95 in GA? Thanks!

Pamkev on the road and floreksa and arizonacolbys soon to follow!

Cool. :cool1:

All the best! :thumbsup2

You are going to hit beach traffic heading to Virginia, so it could be bumper to bumper from DC to Richmond. Not a pleasant thought, that's for sure.

I agree with Dave that you should think of an alternative route, or take a nap and leave and drive overnight. Friday nights and Saturday through 3:00 pm are always crazy once the summer beach weekend thing starts.

Believe me, we sat in it and lost an additional 5 hours :scared1: because we hit it too late on a Saturday morning (around 10 am).

This trip we're waiting until Sunday just because of the traffic.

Quoting myself because we decided to tack on an extra day at the FRONT of the trip, so we're driving down on Saturday. We plan to hit the road at 4 so we should be past Richmond by 9, then checking in by 9 pm

Our AP expires that Monday, so we can get a few days out of it. Sunday MK EMH means it's open until 2 am, and since we're going to be at the Contemporary, we couldn't miss it!!

Can't wait to hit the road!!

Hey, all 23 days left for us. I'm really enjoying everyone's updates. Safe travels to all those on the road right now.

We finally upgraded to a Smart Phone and web access. Since I'm designated passenger, I'll get to play with the phone while on the road.

I'm going to post right now that we plan on Leaving town around 12:00 noon on Friday May 27th (the kids have a 1/2 day of school), landing in Fredericksburg that night and hitting Jacksonville Saturday night and Disney late morning/early afternoon on the 29th. We're keeping in mind that this is a holiday weekend so it will be interesting to see what traffic is like. Our first ADR is at Chef Mickey's at 5:00 on the 29th and MK is open 'til 2am with EMH. So our hope is that our room will be ready and we'll have time to freshen up before going out.

Let's see how close to our plan we end up.

We will be leaving on the 27th also, but closer to 8-10 pm. But we will probably be passing you during the night, since we drive straight through to Georgia before pulling over in a rest stop for a few hours sleep. We will be heading to Melbourne, FL where we have ressies at a Double Tree on the beach the night before out DCL Cruise. Probably won't be going to WDW this trip, but you never know. We both have DROIDs so I will be able to keep up with the boards, too.

Yeah, but between bags, kids and stuff you'll have to go up on the roof rack :lmao:

We may consider going west to 81 since we're going on a Saturday so we REALLY may see you on the road. FYI - I have a new cell/smartphone so I'll have to give you that number. We decided to keep my old cell as our house phone and disconnect from Verizon. I'll probably have both with me, but the new phone is SO much easier to text on so I'd rather do that than the triple clicks on the number pad on the old phone.

Oh, and if anyone wants to, they're welcome to drive a little FASTER than we are, so they can be the ones pulled over :rotfl: while we smile and wave as we drive by doing 80! Did I say that out loud??? :rolleyes1
