With gas prices on the rise, I'm trying to lower my speeding on the expressway to get more out of my mileage.

Been doing this myself, however, I have also noticed an increase in mileage, again, now that the warmer weather is upon us. Our CRV is up to nearly 30MPG again on the highway. (That's the car we usually take to Disney). My Civic, is average nearly 40 on the highway. These are both up 6-8MPG since mid winter. I correlate it to warmer weather, and, from what I have always read, a reduction in the amount of ethanol in the fuel. I've also been staying at 65 or under for most drives, and need to learn to STAY in that zone for our big summer outings! :lmao:

i never "lead the pack" i dont know why but i always like having someone in front of me for pacing and i dont feel as bad speeding for some reason.:rotfl2:

LOL, I thought it was just me. ;)

Really, I have no problem doing 85 if the guy in front of me is doing it!

So, we are driving down in August. (we were going to drive last year, but ended up flying with some free miles) I have drove it once before in 1991.

So on Easter when we told my family that we are driving my sister and bil looked at us like we grown an extra head, and my mom asked how many hours will the drive take? At the same time I said "oh about 17 hours", my sister & bil said "oh about 25 hours!" So we went back and forth on this, but kept insisting that I was crazy there was no way this is possible!

Am I delusional that 20 years ago that's how long it took me? I live just east of Pittsburgh.

Well, hitting the road in about 18 hours or so from NH, Praying that we avoid that severe weather - 1st stop is Richmond VA, should be there about 4PM the latest...Nice rest for me and a swim for the DD & DW. Then up & out early to head down to WDW! Hope all that are driving a safe & happy vacation.:cool1:

Triptik ordered. Of course I told them exactly what route I want. I just like having the pretty printouts with the turn by turn mileage info and stuff. :goodvibes

"Yes, I want the map for each and every state we're passing through" (the southeastern states map doesn't count).

I know I can do the trip tik myself but I don't have a color printer at home (or a working printer at the moment) and I need to pick up the maps anyway.

I keep watching the gas prices go up, but what are you gonna do?:confused3

31 days to go:cool1:

I went from Hartford to Jacksonville last July. Google maps says it is an 18.5 hour trip. With traffic, stops to eat and bathroom included, it took us 18.5 hours.

From Monroeville, PA to Lake Buena Vista, FL, according to Google Maps, is 17.0 hours

You are correct

It takes us 22 hours total from east of Buffalo. Subtract the 4 hours it takes us to get to Pittsburgh and you are looking at around 18 hours drive time, depending on how fast you drive and traffic.

Thanks! They just kept insisting I was wrong and that it was not possible, that I remembered it wrong!

What routes did you take?

Thanks!
What routes did you take?

Not sure of the route numbers, but south through Pittsburgh, into West Virginia, use the cutoff recommended by AAA (route 19?), then through Fancy Gap Virginia, Charlotte, Columbia and catch 95 south around St. George SC. I really don't like that route, as it is hard on our van going up/down/around those mountains in West Virginia & Virginia and wrecks our gas mileage. Also hate Charlotte with a passion. No matter how we plan it, we seem to hit terrible traffic and/or accidents backing up the freeway around Charlotte, especially going southbound. Northbound we have been luckier.... if we leave WDW by 9 am, we can usually hit Charlotte between 6 & 7 pm, so we are going the opposite of most of the pm rush hour traffic. Usually stop northbound around Statesville for the night.

Last few times we have gone southbound via route 15 through the middle of PA, then 81 south and fished over to 95 south around Fredricksburg, VA to avoid the Baltimore/DC traffic. Like this route much better.

Your countdown is getting short.

To better prepare for weather, do some on-line weather searches in advance for key cities along your route: Baltimore/D.C., Richmond, etc. The more info you have, the better decisions you can make along your journey.

Have a safe drive.

All the best. :thumbsup2

As you can see from my signature, we have officially cancelled our November trip. We just can't justify the price of gas combined with the lack of good AP discounts this year - last year we got 45% on OKW, not sure if it was a GP or a bounceback. But only 35% this year just annoyed me!

So, we're not renewing our APs either.

The good thing is that we're thinking of buying a house next year, so we couldn't justify the extra trip this year vs. using that money towards a new house.

We still have June so it's all good!

Oh well..at least you are still going this year!:yay:
We are struggling right now with the cost of our trip and it's not til October. I'm beginning to think we should book the $84 AirTran flights out of LVIA instead of driving but the whole reason we planned to drive in Oct. is to see the beautiful autumn colors along Rte. 81!

We just booked the $84 flights. With the price of gas going up AND the fact DH just had knee surgery with complications, we decided driving was just not worth it this year. Usually, we feel it is less expensive to drive - but all things considered. I will miss having the car down there though.

Yeah, we are a little sad about it, but we have to be responsible and not give Disney ALL our money, just half of it this year!!
