Hi Everyone, and happy Easter! We are headed back towards NJ after a family stop in Greensboro NC, a beautiful city if Ive ever seen one. We came north on I-95 Friday and had good sailing until we got near the GA-SC border. For no reason at all traffic at the 3 to 2 lane bridge near the border crawled, only to open as we crossed the bridge and then crawl for more miles going north. We think there was a wreck but never saw anything. As a side trip We took 26 to 77 to visit family in Greensboro NC where we are now for the weekend.
Now to my question..... We are considering getting back to I-81 and then taking it north to Rt 7 in Winchester VA then following Rt 7 to Rt 340 before hooking back up with I-70 which till take us to 695 and around Baltimore before getting on 95 north to the Jersey Shore. Has anyone ever done this, and is it worth it to cut the corner instead of going all the way to Harrisburg and also avoiding Balt/DC? We have to be at work/school Tues AM and I'm scared that one crash or delay on 95 gets me home at 1am.

ive never went that way. im not sure which part of the nj shore your from but 81 will take you into i78. the only city you will hit is harrisburg. follow i78 through pa and into nj. i78 to i287 or you can hit rt33 north off of i78, just before you hit nj, rt33 is a 65 mhp highway like i81/i78. rt33 will take you ti i80 if you live closer to i80. all theses routes are well marked and easy to find. it will keep you away from balt. and washington.
Hi were from CT too, most trips home we do the 26,77,81,84 route.
I don't know what to do I just priced out on gas buddy how much it will cost to drive down and it was like 615.00 round trip this is not counting hotels or cost of meals for two nights one night down one night back. I can fly out of BWI on SW for 658.00 rent a car for around 200.00 from Alamo. This is about the same price as driving the only extra cost would be gas to BWI which is about a 2 hour drive and the cost to park the car at 12.00 a day which would be around 100.00. So great drivers which would you chose a 2 hour flight and all the stuff that comes with flying or the drive. We would not incur luggage fee's due to it being SW

i use 100 gallons of gas. i guess i get about 16-18 miles per gallon.i would have to think you would be in the same area. friends of ours have followed us in a ford suv,(loaded down with bags) and i think they burned about 10 gallons more than i did.hi pam, if i recall, you live not to far from me. to give you an idea. i drive a town and country. im usualy over the speed limit and i dont do a 0-60 in 10 min.
Yes we live near Hershey area and drive a Dodge caravan and your right it will be a little over $300.00 for gas as we are just a little closer than you although not much I do know when we head down the turnpike to Philly or 78 to NYC we can get up to 22 miles per gallon. I was looking at gas buddy all wrong and freaked out

I did the same thing!!! Totally thought gas buddy was 'each way' and had figured that into the budget... so now I am 'up' $350 thanks to you!!!
Yes we live near Hershey area and drive a Dodge caravan and your right it will be a little over $300.00 for gas as we are just a little closer than you although not much I do know when we head down the turnpike to Philly or 78 to NYC we can get up to 22 miles per gallon. I was looking at gas buddy all wrong and freaked out

Just arrived home a couple of hours ago. Total miles: 3,183 round trip Total gas cost: $478.00 We got right around 25 mpg keeping the speedometer at 68 mph. in our minivan. Highest gas price we saw is right here at home: $3.99 on the NYS Thruway. Of course we didn't buy there. Last fillup was in Ohio at $3.75/gallon. Best price we saw on the way home and paid for was in Alabama at $3.51/gallon. Yes, welcome back to NYS, the tax capitol of the world. Not only do we have high tax on gasoline, we also have to pay the dreaded Thruway toll. The only toll we had to pay the entire trip. UGH!

We are planning on being around Monteagle, TN the first night. Anyone have any experiences in this place? Any good hotel recommendations? Then the following day we will get to WDW at night and I'm going to book ourselves one more night at Pop so we can spend the whole next full day at MK. We're only 18 days away. I am terrified of traffic. Any tips on what to avoid or what roads to take? I will pay tolls if it means less traffic
VERY excited to report that DH has now decided to take that Friday off before we leave so we can leave early in the morning instead of having to drive all night/all day 20 hours
you got a long drive ahead of you. just relax, in the van, take your shoes off, crawl in the back, play games,watch a movie. your bound to hit some kind of traffic any way you go. youll get there. try not to stress yourself out over traffic that you cant do much about. you have given yourself pleanty of time, and dont have to kill yourself to get there. have fun with the drive!!
