For 2,000+ Mile Round-Trip Drivers Only! (II)

An Associated Press story today explains that "fewer tourists seen at vacation sites around the country" due to escalating gasoline prices. Understandable, to say the least.

Mount Rushmore and the Rhode Island coast, where Guilded Age mansions abound, had fewer visitors than last month. And Grand Canyon tourist numbers are down from a year ago. Other places are offering significant discounts to drivers in an effort to offset the gasoline costs.

And Disney? Already some of this thread have eliminated/reduced trips. [And airlines have been adding fuel surcharges].

Regular topped $3.67 in southern Ocean County, NJ yesterday. And we have relatively low gas prices!

All the best. :thumbsup2

[BTW: The next reply will be #1,000]

:lmao: i have a few things in the van all ready. we are starting to figure out what we are taking. we have been dvc members since 1999 and use to a full size washer and dryer in the room. now, staying at the contemp. :lmao: i told tammy and briana, were not going into the jungle for 8 nights, they have washer and dryers.:lmao:

Yes, but you have to babysit your laundry when it's not in your room. Technically as DVC members, you can pool-hop to somewhere like OKW, then do some laundry and hang at the pool right?

We have a tub that we throw stuff into or it never comes out. We're thinking of getting an owner's locker for all the Disney wardrobe, beach towels, sunscreen, Mickey Crocs, laundry supplies. I think we have two bags with nothing but our Disney clothes, so why keep taking it back and forth every time??

Back in Feb, we only brought 4 or 5 shirts each and washed them a couple of times. The pictures are pretty funny - like we had a VERY limited wardrobe :rotfl: Kind of got boring seeing the same thing in every picture.

On another note - we're trying to decide when to come home. If we leave to come home on Friday July 1, would the 95 north to 64 west to 81 work, or do we have to go 77 to 81? We'd probably hit Richmond by around 10 am - noon on Saturday. Is that a mistake? We're scheduled right now to come home on Thursday, but it seems like a waste to get home by Friday when we have the long holiday weekend with nothing else to do. But we're afraid of the traffic.

congrats sharon!!! i got your text!!!:thumbsup2

Yeah, but I'm thinking we may have to go back to the GP discount. We think we're cancelling the November trip so we won't need the Annual Pass. It expires on June 20, so we'll need to renew or buy tickets for the rest of the trip. We can get 10 day hopper with water parks for $1500 vs. $1950 for AP renewal with no water parks. The discount between GP and AP is only 5% so I don't want to spend an extra $700 for a $400 discount. I'm still behind by around $300. So I won't have an AP to show when we move to OKW.

We considered just doing OKW and skipping the Contemporary but we're too psyched about it.

that is a busy time. we are leaving on a sunday to come home. im going to go up 77-81. but that does take you well out of your way. i dont want to hit sunday night shore traffic on 95. we have off monday if we have to stop. i hang out in the laundry room. i do it late at night, less traffic.:lmao: its funny, the last time we were there, there were three ladies in the laundry room at the contemp. and i was the only guy. they kept talking about me.:lmao: "oh look lisa, he even uses fabric softner.":lmao: "he even folds everything":lmao: now i see why men dont do laundry in public.:lmao:

LOL, that's Mike's job at our house too. You guys can compare laundry tips at dinner :rotfl: That's why your both such good catches for your wives.

Anything is possible, thank you. However, we will not know if we are available on certain days/nights until a week or so before since we usually meet with Florida friends while we are there (we are celebrating a wedding anniversary that week). Still, our paths will cross in June.
Count on it.
Somewhere.
Sometime.
And when we do, perhaps we can exchange $6.00-a-gallon gasoline stories at that time! :scared1:

All the best. :thumbsup2

Gas is going to really cripple our society if it keeps going, we leave in a little over a month, and are planning on 5.00 a gal, it has been 4.00 a gal here for the last 2 weeks. I know for us to keep our trip and offset gas we have to give up the park hopper and downgrade from our mk view, almost 700.00 saved.

Left yesterday to return home. I couldn't stand the thought of sitting in traffic on I4 so we used the Florida turnpike instead. It worked out pretty well. We got to within 15 miles of our exit and ran into a wall. It was backed up as far as you could see. Fortunately, gps got us to where we wanted with no additional mileage and only 10 more minutes. That is alot less than it would have been. We could see the exit for our detour so we only lost 10 minutes. Anyone else run into this traffic on I95 NB in Georgia just before the S.C. line? We are getting ready to head out now. We will be taking 26, 77 and 81 for the first time I'm hoping the extra distance is offset by what I anticipate could be heavy traffic running up 95 all way back to CT. I guess I'll have to hope for the best.

You'll be hitting some rain for sure. I live just east of 81 off Rt. 30 (about 15 miles from Chambersburg, PA) and we have had heavy rain off and on since I got up and it looks to be this way all day. So much for all the Easter egg hunts planned! Have a good trip.
