For 2,000+ Mile Round-Trip Drivers Only! (II)

We're leaving Cape Cod this Sunday morning, hoping to arrive at Pop sometime on Tuesday after overnights in Fredericksburg and Savannah - though the big snowstorm they're forecasting might impact that. AAA says our roundtrip is 2,705 miles via I-95.

Anybody have any reports about road conditions on the I-78/81/77 route from New Jersey to North Carolina? Last year, we got logjammed on the Jersey and Delaware turnpikes on the Sunday after Christmas, so we're looking at an alternate this time around....

I can tell you that the ongoing road construction on I-81 from just south of Shippensburg, PA, will slow you up a little, but overall it shouldn't affect your time too drastically.

Well, don't worry, the I-81 construction will still be there for you. We've lived here 21 years and I don't think I can remember there not being some sort of roadwork occurring on the interstate. Can't you get out ahead of the storm?

We were thinking the same thing - we are going to try our first straight through drive in June. Plenty of sunlight. I think we'll leave around 5, get there between 9 and 10.

About two feet of fallen snow here at the Jersey Shore with several additional feet of drifts and snow-plowed mounds over over 10-12 feet.

Random thoughts of taking a ride on the People Mover to cool off in hot weather in Tomorrowland seem more like, well, Fantasyland right now.

So, we are getting ready to take our first trip to WDW driving - and I am a little confused and worried about it. I am hoping some of you wonderful people might be able to give me some advice. I have looked through this post and the for drivers post. However, I don't have all the time to read every post, although I wish I could. Most of what I have read here has to do with I95, which is not the route we would be taking. And I am hoping that you will let me post here even though I will technically only be driving a little over 1800 miles round trip.

Here is my problem, we plan on using our GPS, but I also want something as a backup, so I have looked at Google maps and used AAA TripTik. The AAA route was about 2 hours shorter than google maps, so I was rather confused, because for the most part they seem to take about the same route... Does anyone have any experience driving from IN or somewhere that requires them to take I65 to I75 I believe.

Would appreciate any ideas/suggestions etc.

Look forward to hearing the experts ideas or points of view.

We just drive through IL and catch I-75 farther down. I'm doing this off the top of my head so I may be off base. We used AAA last time and if I recall part of the difference was driving AROUND Atlanta...we never drive around it. We just go through it since they have the HOV lanes and we aren't exiting anywhere. Of course, being used to Chicago traffic, we have never found Atlanta all that bad (maybe we just hit lucky timing).

Thank you. I hope others will lend their input too, but that makes me feel better. I know a lot of people from IL (fiance's family is all from IL). I also know a lot of people from Chicago, so I know the Chicago traffic. haha. Thanks again for your input, I just want to get it all figured out before we leave.

I too am from IL and choose to avoid 65 but do take 75. I agree with going straight through Atlanta. It takes longer to go around and we have never hit traffic going straight through. We usually go through Atlanta between 11a and 2pm and even drove through about 10p on a Friday night last year. It will save a lot of time. AAA will always suggest going around Atlanta though and I am not sure what Google maps shows. My GPS always takes me straight through Atlanta. I believe it takes about 10 hours to get to Disney from Nashville, TN. HTH

hi grammy, i95 is clear in pa. most of the notheast cities are back up and running, flights are getting in and out but the are 2 days behind. you should be ok, its getting warmer also. have a safe trip!!

for some reason, i burn 100 gallons of gas round trip everytime. i generaly am a bit over the speed limit , we have a chrysler town and country touring and its 1086 miles from my drive way to old key west. we just came back 2 weeks ago and my gas bill was $268. for some reason gas is 10 cents higher in pa than it is below the masion dixon. have a safe trip!!
