hi sharon, im not blowing you off, we just havnt fiqured out what we are doing yet in june. we are going with another couple again and trying to nail down were and when they want to eat and as soon as i do, ill pm or text you.

No problem. we don't even have a room booked yet, so I'm totally flexible. We do expect to stay at OKW, unless no room discount. Then we have NO IDEA what we're going to do.

Late June is a bit too warm but it's our anniversary and we prefer to spend it at the Fountain of Youth: Walt Disney World. And the total daylight driving hours are maxed out at that time of year. You can start a drive at 3 a.m. and get a hint of daybreak a little over 90 minutes later. Sunset won't happen until 8:30 p.m. So it's a one-day drive to Lake Buena Vista in mostly sunlight (weather permitting).

Trans-keteers? Hmm. Takes thinkin' on.

We were thinking the same thing - we are going to try our first straight through drive in June. Plenty of sunlight. I think we'll leave around 5, get there between 9 and 10.

Yet another coincidence.
However, be aware that a 1,000+ mile drive-through requires an alertness that is beyond what you may think it is. Get plenty of rest and never hesitate to pull over when you are tired.

Good advice. We will switch drivers every 2-3 hours, so we should need 4 shifts each at most. Last summer, when we got stuck in the horror of DC/Virginia Saturday traffic, we DID travel for 17 hours, just 5 of it was stop and go rather than at high speed. We feel pretty confident in our ability to do it in the summer. I'd be afraid to do it when it gets dark at 5, but having the extra four hours in the evening should be fine for us.

Believe me, we are absolutely safe drivers. Two kids in the van means the utmost in safety at all times.

We got home a couple of days ago. It was probably our easiest drive in terms of good weather and lack of construction delays. Can it be that Jacksonville is actually finished? Somewhere in VA on the way down we came to a complete stop for about 20 minutes due to dynamite blasting for some reason. We knew it was our day however when we saw that we were right in front of a rest area. So, like everyone else, we left our car on the highway, used the facilities, and were back in plenty of time. Then on the drive home in SC we came to a stop again and saw a helicopter lift off from the highway about 100 yards in front of us on the other side. It was taking an accident victim to the hospital. After about 10 minutes of rubbernecking we were on our way again. There was record cold weather for a few days while we were at WDW and a lot of dead plants and flowers as a result. But as soon as the frost was over Disney had an army of gardeners out replacing every one of them.

First drive to WDW but we drive to near Savannah GA every April. We aren't going this april because of the WDW trip. We usually do the 997 miles from our house to my friends straight thru with my husband doing all the driving. I hate driving but for the WDW trip I will drive some so we can do the trip right though. I wont stop and spend money or time at a motel..LOL

We're heading down from Oconto, WI on Wednesday the 29th, planning to arrive around noon on new year's eve with two layovers on the way down. We'll be in Orlando until the 10th, and then starting our long trek home. Our first drive down, looks like it will be a total of 2,818 roundtrip before any detours. We're so excited!

My husband and I don't have any kids, so we decided now was the perfect time to try it out and see how we like it. We look at it as a chance to spend time together and see parts of the country that we otherwise probably wouldn't get to see, which is why we're choosing to drive during the day and rest up at night.

Our last major drive was from Green Bay, WI to Louisville, KY in December. We left Green Bay around 4:30pm, so almost all of our drive was in the dark. We didn't want a repeat of that! So, having booked almost all of our hotel rooms with free wifi, I'll hopefully be posting updates along the way. Look for them starting next week!

Sounds like a great trip that you have planned. And you'll be the first 2,000+ Mile Round-Trip Driver (at least according to this thread) to be in WDW in 2011.

We're leaving Cape Cod this Sunday morning, hoping to arrive at Pop sometime on Tuesday after overnights in Fredericksburg and Savannah - though the big snowstorm they're forecasting might impact that. AAA says our roundtrip is 2,705 miles via I-95.

Anybody have any reports about road conditions on the I-78/81/77 route from New Jersey to North Carolina? Last year, we got logjammed on the Jersey and Delaware turnpikes on the Sunday after Christmas, so we're looking at an alternate this time around....
