FOP Rope Drop Thanksgiving Morning

Are we insane for thinking of trying this?
Our 60 days for FP is this coming Saturday, and I have ZERO expectations of getting a FP for FOP to use on Thanksgiving morning... So we were considering Rope Drop. If we attempt to execute this plan, do we need to arrive 2 hours before RD? Thanksgiving morning.. I don't expect it to be a pretty easy line.

One hour before should be OK.
But, you can go earlier... arriving far too early always beats arriving one minute too late.

Thank you. I'm going in to "turbotastic" planning mode and I have read the scary stories of the AK/Pandora/RD lines and I worried Thanksgiving might even be worse!

It honestly depends on capacity and any issues. If they are running on full capacity right from open you could be first 500 and be in good shape. But if there are early morning issues or limited operations or both you would need to be in first 50. Reading Josh's animal kingdom rope drop reports should give you a good indication. Thankfully Disney has put more effort in controlling rope drops lately so there isn't the stampede but I leisurely strol with a thousand of your newest friends.

We were at EP and AK on Thanksgiving 2015 but Pandora has me overthinking and worried about a stampede.

1 hour before posted opening time?

I'm going to have to do Rope Drop for FoP on 9/29 (next Friday). Park opening is at 9am. I have a personal vehicle, staying offsite. What time should I be pulling through the parking gate or plan to be at the gate?
