In terms of the motion sickness aspect, is FOP more like Soarin' or Mission Space?

I would say it is perhaps a decent cross between the two. My mother is terrified of rides (even Dumbo) and loves FOP. It can aggravate motion sickness somewhat but isnt' terrible.

You are locked in tightly to a vehicle, but otherwise in an open space.

FoP in design is Soarin' on very powerful steroids. Unlike Soarin', you don't actually have your seat lift up into the air, but the concept of how it all works is very similar. You sitting in your "seat" and watching a giant movie that makes you feel like you're flying.

I haven't been on the brand new Mission Space, but the old one was in a confining cockpit and it actually leaned you back or in the case of Orange, spun you around. FoP does not do any of that.

I think it is more like a cross between the two of them. The range of motion is more like Mission Space, but it is fluid and smooth like Soarin'. I didn't have any problem with it making me queasy, but then again, Mission Space doesn't bother me that way either . . . or at least, not the less intense side. I'm sure the spinning side would get it done lol.
