FOP fast passes first thing in the morning?

Is it a good idea to book FPs for FOP in the first hour after the park opens? My theory is the following: since standby lines build throughout the day, FP wait times must build, too. So if you can use your FP very early, that will be the shortest possible wait times for that ride. Am I out to lunch on this? What about the value of bypassing the crazy standby line in the morning, and going straight to the FP line? Thanks for any insight you can offer!

2. So if you can use your FP very early, that will be the shortest possible wait times for that ride.

1. It is of much more significance the other way around. Standby lines grow very long
due to the FP guests taking up so much of the ride availability.
2. If you don't mind also losing the "lowest crowd of the day" walk-up advantage at every other attraction in the park.

The more common theory is to ride as much standby at rope drop as possible, saving the FP entries for later in the morning (and beyond.)

Thanks for the reply. The reason I ask is that FOP FP availability doubled today, so fast pass return times are expected to climb.

We will have to see how (or if) the extra FPs alter the FP queue wait. For now, I agree with @Robo. It's the opportunity cost at other attractions during the first 30-90 mins of park being open that are important to efficient touring plans (especially at DAK, where everyone rushes to Pandora at park open). Now, if a FoP FP starts leading to a 40+ min wait in the queue (not counting pre-shows), then my opinion might change.
