Hi all.

We will be at WDW this weekend and unfortunately, I was unable to get FP+ for FOP.

I saw that AK has EMH at 8am on Sat and regular opening at 9 on Sun/Mon.

Which of those days would be our best bet to do rope drop? The EMH Sat or the regular opening hrs days?

Thanks!

It's up to you and what time you can get yourself to the park.
with EMH, you should probably be at the gate no more than 45 mins pre-opening (7 AM to be safe).
with no EMH, you should aim for 70-90 minutes earlier. (7:45 would be a good time to aim for).

I was unable to get FP+ for FOP.

also if you have a small party and are not keen on RD that early, you can always check for day off FPs, or just jump in line a few minutes before park close.
the wait will be much shorter than during the day.

I'd agree with above... our attempt last Wednesday we walked thru the gates a few moments before 9, posted wait was 120 minutes when we got there

I didn’t do rope drop for FOP but met someone who did the day we were there. AK opened @ 9 & they were in line by 7 am. Said it was already crowded.

We rope drop Animal Kingdom every trip now. We usually do it on the EMH days. Most of the time we arrive at the park around 6:45 (we're usually the first people there, sometimes one or two families will already be there). We've been the first people on the ride every time we've done this. We're on and off FOP by 8:00 (they let you enter a little earlier than 8:00) and then we hop over to Na'vi and it's usually a walk on.

I rope dropped FoP a couple of weeks ago. I arrived at 7:30am for a 9am opening. I rested on a bench over near the restrooms until they opened the area in front of the tapstiles. So I wasn't at the very front when they opened the tapstiles. After the walk back towards Pandora I was about 6 rows of people back from the front at the rope. We had the usual CM paced walk into FoP, this time through the standby line. Since I was a single rider I got directed into a separate queue with one other single rider. That jumped me ahead quite a bit. I walked out into Pandora at 8:57am and walked right onto Navi River. I was back out into Pandora at 9:08am.

Unless you are really an early riser I would suggest a day with a 9am opening. Getting there early is the key. Yes, you will be waiting at the tapstiles and again at the rope to Pandora. But after that wait you will be close to "walking on" FoP. After that you will be able to head off to other attractions and ride with low waits. After my rope drop FoP and Navi River I headed off to ITTBAB, then Dinosaur, then back to a FP for the Safari, and was third in line for an early lunch at Flametree BBQ. I counted that a successful morning at the AK.

This is what we're hoping to do. Not sure if we can get there that early but our day has EMH and we'll try to get there as early as we can. I wasn't able to get us a FP for FOP but did for Na'vi later in the day.
